I'm much more a fan of his radio shows than his TV shows, even though I grew up on his TV first and discovered his radio-shows only in the '80s and since. TO BE is a favorite comedy, but maybe - like his radio and TV shows - it's everyone else around him that contributes. In 1960, he was in a favori...

One point was made in favor of Rose: that these are Essentials, and that program is meant to introduce these films to a new generation. And I understand the attraction of lovely women. I think they should consider Naked Women, myself. I'm a big fan of Naked Women. If they REALLY want a whole new aud...

I am familiar with a debacle that the BBC perpetrated on their archives in the early '70s, where they deliberately destroyed tapes of classics series (like the Peter Cook-Dudley Moore series) and films, with some estimates ranging into the ten-thousand or so tapes. Wiped out. Thrown away to make she...

TCM Traders Group?
I'd like to find a group of disc-traders who can help me fill out my DVD collection when I've missed or poorly-recorded a broadcast film. I have a few thousand but I'm always 80 or 120 or so short of a 'perfect' collection - until someone turns me onto a new series of films, like TCM frequently does.

What about "portability" or "compatibility&qu
I run across several trading-partners who use DVRs and produce non-standard DVD-Rs - in formats that my various PCs, Macs and Linux boxes can't read, and that none of my TV DVD players can play. In fact, only their DVR players can play them. What's the cause for this? I know, I know - it's a video-c...

I am a re-editor of movie posters, far less than even PhotoShoppers. My goal is to create DVD Label Art so I can print onto my DVD-Rs that I travel with, rather than insist that I patiently hand-scrawl legibie film names, actors and release-years onto them. That's just too much for me to ask. So I'm...

I picked up the Film Noir 10-movie collection last summer and, along with a few TV Boxsets, this FORD box set is my largest number of disks. My poor personality seems to dictate I watch them all at one sitting (hardly ever a good idea), and I find myself burning out by Film 2. That has stigmatized t...

Alan, thanks for such a great book on Charles McGraw. I'm only halfway thru it but after a few decades of rewatching movies, I've understood that most of my attraction for re-seeing films comes from the supporting actors, and Charles McGraw is one actor I try to 'collect'. His terrific films are my ...
