MissGoddess, :o The Hitchcock film is THE WHITE SHADOW (1923) with Betty Compson and Clive Brook. But only three of the 6 reels were discovered. While its great to see Ernst Lubitsch THE LOVES OF PHARAOH restored and made available there are allot of Lubitsch Silents that have yet to be released. TH...

Re: Gribiche (1926, J. Feyder)

:o Lo, I'd sure love to see this. I had not heard anything about Flicker Alley releasing this title anyplace, prior to reading this? By the way, Arte TV is running Ernst Lubitsch THE LOVES OF PHARAOH (1922) on the 26th. Is this the same as ARTE Network? The restoration trailer looks truly amazing. W...

Kevin,

:? On the TCM boards they are saying this is the Silent version. And yes, I goofed on the date. Sorry about that. It is the 28th.

Silent Version of ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT on TCM!

:o In case no one has noticed, TCM is airing the recent restoration of the Silent version of Lewis Milestone's ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT on September 14th! This was a huge surprise. I hope to see it shown sometime, but I did not expect it to happen so soon. Also the debut of the newly restored ...

:? Are you asking Greg, or are you asking me? :D Here is much more on the WINGS story! This is huge! "By the way, my job was to put the orchestrator (Dominik Hauser) together with the archivist (Jeannie Pool) and after his work (over 178 cues!) prepare the parts for the orchestra. 6 of t...

Re: Napoleon - San Francisco Bay Area - March 2012

:o Alas, there are no plans for a DVD or Blu-ray release anytime soon. It will probably be a few more years. However, such is not the case with WINGS! The new restoration is expected to be released before the end of 2011! Here is a note from Greg Nester posted just this morning. "Just finished ...

:D A really great lineup. THE CARDBOARD LOVER is a delightful film. based on the Stage play that Starred Jeanne Eagels, and much, much better than the later sound remake. Plus it is very rarely screened.

Opening Of LILAC TIME (1928)

:D For Memorial Day weekend. The opening of Colleen Moore's LILAC TIME. The rendition of "Jeannine" is the original recording of the entrance music that I got from the Vita-phone project last year. Jorge restored the audio and it sounds great! Also have the closing original music. The cred...

:? There are certainly plenty of flaws to UNCLE TOM'S CABIN . It's never going to be a favorite of mine, but it does have impressive sets and period detail. Don't know if you have seen this picture or not before? You might be amazed by it? Yikes! http://api.ning.com/files/OAtU*b0gsNdi8KyRo7L...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

kingme, :) I also hope that people noticed that THE GENERAL had a brand new musical score (though it was recorded in 2006), by Rodney Sauer, and his Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. What a huge difference over what TCM had been running with the Alloy Orchestra score the past 8 years. Much more en...

Re: Colleen Moore and Clara Bow On TCM Tonight!

moirafinnie, :) Obviously, the whole evening revolved around the Colleen Moore footage for me. She was a tremendous actress and comedienne. Equally skilled at handling drama as well. None of her Starring features of the 1920's have ever been shown on TCM. This despite that most which survive are tec...
