Re: Bad Movies You Love
There once was a GIRL FROM THE BRONX! (Still don't have a rhyme for that.) How wonderful to see you. I haven't been Bronxed in months! Hi, Mike! You are sweet, thank you. You don't really want to be Bronxed, do you, lol? Nothing rhymes with my borough except, what? Honks and bonks? (But that says i...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
moira, ah, at last the definitive compare/contrast on Milton and Ned! Masterful, I lurve it! We will never be confused again! Grazie! If the two of them were in a horror movie, Seltzer would be Dr. Frankenstein and Glass would be Igor, right? Isn't Milt the guy at the track in MARNIE, asking T...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
I get a migraine thinking about this movie, and don't get me started on Coral Browne....(shiver)
It's probably all deeper than we know, and I'll bet the French think it's Aldrich's masterpiece.
Guten nacht!

Re: Bad Movies You Love
Merci, SueSue! I have moira to thank for allowing me to come crawling back to Broadway, er, I mean to SSO, because I've been away so long and couldn't access the site anymore. :| (my feeble explanation for this apparent shameless desertion is that I tend to get overwhelmed by all our TCM-related ven...

Re: Bad Movies You Love
kingrat, what is it about the name "Barney", given to Ernie Borgnine's characters in THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE and THE OSCAR, that particularly telegraphs "ruthless" and "sleazy" in these '60's camp-fests? :D I love and agree with everything in your LYLAH review, great ...

Re: SPENCER TRACY - October, 2012 SOTM
Tracy had one of those acting tricks Tag Gallagher alludes to that I've always noticed -- hesitations and stammers, the repetition of certain words that gave the illusion he was speaking naturally and not just following the script. (Jimmy Stewart did this too, lol, but then it became almost a self-p...

Re: Ralph Richardson, film actor
Dr. Sloper confesses to sister Elizabeth: "You thought I LOVED my wife? You thought that? I DESPISED her! Our marriage was a sham! She had everything a man could want: beauty, brains, and breeding. She told me, "I'll take care of your home, Austin, and entertain those dreary medical collea...

Re: Ralph Richardson, film actor
That photo of 12 year old Ralph is remarkable. His eyes do look dreamy, but the rest of the expression seems resolute, and possibly a young force to be reckoned with. Do you notice that Miriam Hopkins becomes a Southern belle in speech and manner whenever she takes her leave of Morris? I wonder how ...

Re: Ralph Richardson, film actor
Jackie, LOL re: "my" Ralphie!! Aww, that was sweet! You didn't have to. (I never realized that Bellamy had lovely slender hands) Wow, Richardson looks dashing and sexy as Petruchio. Make-up helps, of course, but I feel he really under-estimated his physical appeal. Emlyn Williams with him ...

Re: Ralph Richardson, film actor
Jackie, your break-down of LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT is so brilliant, I'm thunderstruck. Your analysis and insights are beyond amazing. And what a multi-faceted cornucopia of Richardson you've given us with this thread -- it's delicious! I don't know where to start first with Ralph's films and p...

Re: Ralph Richardson, film actor
I've been incredibly ignorant about Richardson's wife, her tragic illness and death, and how this might possibly have affected and informed many if not all of his performances. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
