I have The Prizefighter and the Lady and The Wet Parade if you're still needing them. I can offer only VHS copies, though. Send me a private message if you're interested.

Oh, I'm glad. I got to worrying, so I thought I would ask. Thank you both for putting me at ease.

Getting back to the topic, which is the correct way to say Lana Turner's name? I've sometimes heard the first A pronounced like the one in fan, other times as ah.

movieman1957: I hope I wasn't rude in the way I mentioned what I found about Franchot Tone. If I was, I'm terribly sorry.

Also, what I find interesting about movies seems trite since I prefer fluffy movies set on ocean liners with cocktails, English butlers and snappy banter. Sometimes I like to share what made me laugh out loud alone and see if one of you had the same reaction or discuss the decor. Fluffy is my prefe...

I believe it's "oh": Po-la. And, off-topic, I love the quote you have as your signature, charliechaplinfan. I've just come from www.franchot-tone.com , where the FAQ section includes a bit on how to pronounce his name (they even have a sound clip of the man himself!): "Fran-show"...

Pronunciation Guide

A while back on the TCM message boards, someone started a thread about the correct pronunciation of the names we see in classic movie credits. (I can't remember who authored that topic, but they certainly had a good idea.) I wonder if we could have such a thread here so I wouldn't have to go back Ov...

There's a still over at Doctor Macro's that looks like it might picture the right hat--white, with the kind of brim you described. You can find the it at the bottom of their Movie Summaries page of Shadow of a Doubt, here.

From Mr. Smith Goes to Washington : "Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books... Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say, 'I'm free, to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't; I can, and my children will.'" Many, many thanks to the vet...

He might've been a bit on the possessive side, maybe even putting the kibosh on her career a bit. Possible, but I really doubt it as far as her career in concerned. Her momentum slowed in 1934 when she was expecting her first child during the making of Of Human Bondage . They had to film her carefu...

CineMaven -- You know, Frances can't be talked about too often. I'm interested by your comment about her eyes. People talk about eyes, and I don't always see what they see, but this time I do. There's something magical in Frances'. She seemed to look at people with a genuine desire to listen to eve...

I've not been able to find the title of one of my favorite musical sequences. The number is from Down to Earth (1947). Rita Hayworth, playing the Grecian muse Terpsichore, leaves Mount Parnassus to steal the lead in a New York stage show titled "Swinging the Muses". She dances in with chor...

You are most welcome here, Justin. The SSO is such a nice place. It seems we share some favorites: Myrna, Cary, Kate and Henry. Howard Hawks and George Cukor are high on my list of favorite directors as well, though I must admit that list is topped by Frank Capra. Looking forward to hearing from you...
