Re: The Return of Dracula

If Lederer comes first for me then Lugosi isn't far behind. My favourite pic with Bela as a vampire is Columbia's RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE (1944): "You're a fool Andreas, a complete and utter fool. Your fate is to be what you are, as my fate is to be what I am--YOUR MASTER!" Bela is "Arm...

Re: The Return of Dracula

I remember that Langella was a hit with the ladies in the part. Also, Olivier does his Ludwig Donath impersonation. The Oldman picture is too modern for my taste--don't like the style! Carradine was excellent in HOF. John P. Fulton's trick work brilliant. It's a natty idea to have the Count turn int...

The Return of Dracula

Dear Folks, As, I'm sure many of you will know, THE RETURN OF DRACULA is a belting little B movie gem from 1958. Count Dracula flees his homeland. He murders an émigré artist who, unfortunately, just happens to be sharing the same train compartment. Throws the poor chap from the train, and steals th...

Re: RITA HAYWORTH - The Love Goddess

Erik, You wrote: "I adore Rita and I think she's by far one of the loveliest actresses around..." You are most certainly correct about the exceedingly lovely Rita. I do understand your passion. My local library can get me a copy of Barbara Leaming's book on Rita--I think it will be an inte...

Re: RITA HAYWORTH - The Love Goddess

Dear Erik, I enjoyed Charlie Chan in Egypt. Keye Luke said that no one really replaced Oland (though I still like Toler). Miss Cansino didn't get a chance to make much of an impression.

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns

A smashing idea, RR. "...stock up on comic books!" And: shirts, ties, shoes, pants, sports jackets, books, records....

Re: RITA HAYWORTH - The Love Goddess

Erik (or R.H., Which do you prefer?), I'm now going to look out my DVD-rom copy of CHARLIE CHAN IN EGYPT. Then, I can enjoy Mr. Oland, Stepin Fetchit, and Miss Cansino!

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns

Erik, I wish I still had my comics. They be collectable now (as R.R. can attest). And, I'd like to enjoy some of those yarns again. The blokes that wrote the stories and the artists who ilustrated them had great imaginations.

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns

From TV, to comics(!). Does anyone remember D.C. comics from the '50s--ASTOUNDING STORIES and such like? A good few contained intriguing time-travel yarns (many illustrated by Steve Ditko). One such tale (though not illustrated by Ditko) concerned a character named "Ostro". He worked on a ...

Re: Favourite Time Travel Yarns

Yes, Erik, like: THE TROUBLE WITH TEMPLETON, a grand outing for Brian Aherne. Veering to the small screen again, for another favourite with me: TIMELOCK. A fourth season episode of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. In which, a head-case from the future tries to add "Admiral Nelson" (the gre...

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)

Just looked him up to refresh my memory. Brodie's criminal career and double life lasted from 1768 till 1788--when he was hanged. (reportedly before a crowd of 40, 000 people!). That's some going! What a great picture they could've made out of that, with, let's say, Boris Karloff.

Re: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1941)

W.G., Wasn't that a fella named Brodie, "Deacon" Brodie? I'm relying solely on memory here.
