HBO's Perry Mason
Sorry, if this has been discussed elsewhere. I'm really enjoying this series. Obviously it's quite a departure from the Raymond Burr series in the late 50s and early 60s. I'm almost finished with season two and hoping there will be a season three. It has a CHINATOWN feel and the acting is superb. I'...

Re: Noir Alley on TCM
Just as an FYI, I've found some great noirs streaming on Prime. One has to pay for some of them, but many are free with a Prime membership. Also, the MOVIES network shows film noirs on Thursdays. I usually record them so I can fast-forward through the commercials. I'll miss Eddie's comments, but as ...

Re: Noir Alley on TCM
I just saw Eddie Muller’s outro for the 2/26/23 edition of Noir Alley. He said Noir Alley would be off until May because of: 1) 31 Days of Oscar in March; and 2) a Warner Bros. tribute in April. For me, this is a big disappointment. One of the reasons I don’t like Oscar month is that Noir Alley, my...

Re: Noir Alley
Did anyone watch HANGOVER SQUARE? It was pretty good. It reminded me of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Also, I've read in recent posts Ms. Wonderly is now here but I haven't seen any posts from her as yet.

Re: Noir Alley
I'm confused. It appears there are five or six Noir Alley threads on this site. Can the moderators combined them? I'm looking for posts about last night's (1/28) showing which will be aired again at 10:00 this morning. Can someone tell me which of these threads is current? Thanks

Re: The 1960s
Man! You guys really worked on these. Your due diligence is impressive. It reminded me how many great flicks were made in the 60s. I'm old and my tastes were shaped during that decade. Obviously, there are really good films being made now. However, I'm ready for the Super Hero, Comic Book and Old TV...

Re: Noir Alley
Well THE TWO MRS. CARROLLS was disappointing. I am a huge Bogart fan, but this was not his best work. Eddie said Bogart didn't like the film and knew he was wrong for the role. Apparently, his desire to work with Barbara Stanwyck clouded his judgement. I totally agree that his performance was "...

Re: NOIR or NOT?
I vote "NO". Granted my definition of noir is pretty narrow, but I'm willing to compromise on occasion (like THUNDER ROAD). I just can't stretch to include a technicolor Western. My apologies to those who can.

Re: Noir Alley
Wow! It appears to me that THUNDER ROAD has generated more comments than any other film shown on Noir Alley in quite awhile. I'm glad to see you're all alive and well. Also, I've enjoyed reading your comments. I worried that the demise of TCM Message Boards would put an end to these conversations. B...

Re: Noir Alley
Agreed, it's not a noir in the purist sense. However, it's a good film about rural life in the 50s. Also, I couldn't pass up a chance to see Robert Mitchum.
It was interesting seeing Mitchum acting with his son.

Re: Noir Alley
I guess I'll watch THUNDER ROAD simply because I like Mitchum. However, I agree Eddie is really stretching to show this film on Noir Alley. DON''T BOTHER TO KNOCK didn't really fit the genre either. Here's hoping Eddie will get back to seedy detectives, femme fatales and murder soon.

Re: Noir Alley on TCM
While the film is not a noir, I found it very compelling. Monroe was fantastic as a troubled young woman spiraling deeper into mental illness. Widmark was great too. Watching his transformation from a self absorbed cynic to someone capable of compassion was amazing and quite different from many of h...

We just saw Duval in THE PALE BLUE EYE on Netflix. It's a bit part, but he looked pretty good for 92.
