Re: October Schedule 2014

I agree about Khartoum 's qualities, but can't help thinking that some editing might have helped to make the story more accessible to modern audiences in the '60s and now. Director Basil Dearden deserves to be more appreciated but this sweeping epic doesn't really seem to fit in with the rest of hi...

Re: Essential?

KR, I really like Bringing Up Baby . It's silly and fun and ridiculous. I always want to slug Katie in the opening scenes, and shake sense into Mr. Grant. After the maddening car episode, it becomes totally wonderful. Yes, she's irritating beyond belief, but she isn't mean spirited or self serving. ...

Re: October Schedule 2014

Thanks, guys. I thought maybe I was missing the funny bone gene... Never saw the humor in bullying someone else...maybe that's why I really disliked Mama's Family. Loved all the actors, but not that segment. Larry, my parents took me and my friend to the Worlds Fair in both 1964 and 1965. We rode th...

Re: October Schedule 2014

Ok, someone please explain the funny part of "Twentieth Century", because I just don't 'get' it. :? I watched the first full hour, but the shrieking finally got to be more than I cared to invest any more time in. I really tried to laugh, or at least see the humor, but it all fell flat. I a...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?

KnitWit, you were probably the only 12 year-old who knew who Henry Daniel was! Red, it was because my dad recognized him, having lunch with Charles Bickford. Dad and I asked mr. Bickford for his autograph, then we went back to our table. Dad looked over and realized who was also sitting there. We w...

Re: What Horror and Sc-Fi films have you seen lately?

Henry Daniell fascinates me. I wish someone would get around to writing a biography on him. He did have that aloof presence but I recall reading somewhere that he was incredibly kind and gracious to his fans and never refused an autograph. A very underrated actor, though, who never quite received h...

Re: 2014 tv shows new and continuing

KR, the "endless night" isn't quite as good as last weeks double header..lots of characters thrown at you in a hurry...but even a second rate Miss Marple beats most of the stuff being shown!
