Re: The Prisoner of Zenda

I like this one too! The later, more colorful one is fine as well. But this version tops it!

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

"Terror" is a strange western. It's different, and I appreciate that. But "different" is its strongest asset. The story is not fascinating. The pace a little sluggish. It's not a bad movie, but not one I can rave about.

You're right, Rita fan. "Evil" is an entertaining Hammer entry. One of the better ones, even. But I won't be watching it again either. Svengoolie's program is good for people who only watch once in a while. Maybe they haven't seen all the movies half a dozen times!

I don't think any of the later Kong adventures were really good. Fun, maybe. Not truly good filmmaking.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I watched my two favorite W. C. Fields movies this weekend. THE BANK DICK, of course, and IT'S A GIFT. Not much I can say that most of us don't already know about these two superb comedies. The truth is, I like "Gift" even more than the other. It has that wonderful back porch scene; in a r...

I was one of the few who saw CHUKA in a theater! In 1967 a new movie house opened within walking distance of home and school. My brother and I saw practically everything that played there. First film screened there: EL DORADO!

Re: All alone in this vast wilderness

There's something else I've found. I've been posting about movies for ten tears now. I'm not seeing many I haven't seen before. Consequently, I've said just about all I have to say. Everybody knows I like CAPE FEAR! MALTESE FALCON. That I'm a great John Ford fan. Don't even get me started on the fan...

To complicate this even more, my dog Sugar has limited my online time. I am allowed to watch TV (with Sugar), read, do laundry if I must (though repeated trips to the basement make her uneasy), and of course, EAT! These activities are permitted and encouraged. Anything that doesn't include Sugar mus...

For a minute, I was thinking this might be the Jacques Tourneur film that features Masterson. But that's WICHITA, which I would love to see. I believe the most offbeat Masterson story I've seen is THE WOMAN OF THE TOWN, with Albert Dekker as Bat. It's not terribly exciting, but all in all, it's not ...

This news concerned me too. But I was disappointed by the time devoted to it by cable news channels. The Middle East is awash with violence. Ukraine a ticking time bomb. And all we hear about is an actor with non-life threatening injuries?

Rest assured, no one is on IGNORE. I guess people are busy. Changing directions. I, myself, am a Facebook Fiend! Most of my online energy goes there. Mostly, it's as Mr. Arkadin stated. It's hard to have a discussion when you're the only one there!

Amen to all this! When technology becomes the point, rather than a means, we're heading down a disappointing path.
