Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I've watched a few films on Hulu.com recently, which were a mixed bag. The Taking of Pelham One Two Three had been interesting when I first saw it back in the '70s, but was kind of dull to me now. I saw Hair for the first time, which I have never seen on stage. Some great songs, but it didn't seem t...

According to this page on the IMDB, Miss Lanbury sang "Good-bye, Little Yellow Bird" herself. :)

Re: Showboat 1936-1951, which is best

if Old Man River didn't work for Frank, it certainly did for a 44-yr-old Judy Garland on her tv show, wearing a modern day dress. It certainly did work for her, and she had just turned 41. It was episode # 1, taped in June 1963. The black dress was designed by Edith Head (Ray Aghayan took over in e...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I watch Judy Garland musicals on DVD fairly often, most recently probably A Star is Born and Summer Stock. Of the more recent musicals, I really enjoy Dreamgirls. I saw it three times when it was in theaters, and then bought the DVD. :)

Re: Angela Lansbury

Haven't you seen Judy Garland's Harvey Girls ? Angela does a great song and dance in it and it's in color. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the singing voice for Angela Lansbury is dubbed in The Harvey Girls -- but she does sing in her own voice in another Garland musical, TIll the Clouds Roll By -...

I can recommend the following: Judy -- Gerold Frank Rainbow's End -- Coyne Steven Sanders World's Grea...

Re: the Cliff Roberston scandal

If you would like to read an excellent expose of Hollywood's business ethics, "Indecent Exposure" by David McClintick should be on your list. It details how actor Cliff Robertson discovered that his former agent, David Begelman (and then became Columbia studio chief), had forged Robertson...

Re: Films that made you cry

Films that make me cry? I don't mind admitting that the first motion picture I ever saw, Mary Poppins , has always made me cry, every time, during the scene where Jane Darwell is feeding the birds on the steps of St. Paul's and Julie Andrews is singing the 'tuppence a bag' song. I'm starting to cry ...
