Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies..... I love little harp glissando as Godfrey shoos away the "pixies". I like how you can hear Brady giggling occasionally as Godfrey leaves, and then all the way down the stairs....

Re: TCM Classic Film Union

I went on a bit when the TCM boards went down.... oh, yeah.... they are still down..... I still don't know who half the people are who are asking to be my friend, or what happens when they become your friend. Do I go for quantity, or quality? Perhaps I should just try and get EVERYONE to be my frien...

Re: THE CRAZY MOTHER THREAD

Hey, Bronxie, it's so much fun to hear from your mum again! "Was she still alive when the movie was made?"... DOH!

Sometimes I picture you as Edgar Kennedy, king of the "slow burn" ..

Re: Random thoughts on Butch and the Kid and the Wild Bunch

Thanks for the great list, Mr. Arkadin. I can see I have my work cut out for me!

I'm laughing, because even the titles of these Ryan films scare me.... do I really have to go on this dark route? :(

I'm gonna have to watch a lot of Harry Carey, Jr. movies to get these films out of my mind......

Re: The Hanging Tree

I like Maria Schell and I think it's more a question of style.....her style does not jibe with, say, Glenn Ford's in Cimarron . Maybe Hollywood did not really know what to do with her. She always seems out of her element, because... well she IS out of her element, so usually that is what is called f...

Re: Random thoughts on Butch and the Kid and the Wild Bunch

Thanks guys! I realize that for most of my classic film life, I have been awfully closed minded and snobbish! Now that I have seen many of my favorites' entire filmographies, I long for something different..... Goddess, thanks for the link. It's so good to know that when I want to look into new subj...

Re: Random thoughts on Butch and the Kid and the Wild Bunch

Mr. Arkadin, I can tell you frankly that I have NO experience with Italian westerns aside from the occasional accidental viewing on TV, so anything I say about them should be taken with a large grain of salt.... I have always had an aversion to Robert Ryan, but this too is based on nothing substanti...

Re: Random thoughts on Butch and the Kid and the Wild Bunch

It is a good thing...a very good thing. It turned out to be a great movie. I just didn't expect the ending at all. One of the problems I have with some of the later westerns is that they turn the tables on the old westerns, which isn't necessarily a bad thing... . but when they take away something, ...

Re: John Ford's America - A Shared Humanity

I have always loved The Informer, from the minute I first saw it. Aged 12, I think, at 2 o'clock in the morning, I stayed up to see it because it was in my sister's "50 Greatest Motion Pictures of All Time" book. I was overwhelmed. The grief and guilt Gypo feels, I felt. I thought it was a...

Re: The Hanging Tree

That youtube intro was just enough to get me real interested.... Ha! Your a heartbreaker, you are.... I am curious, because I thought I saw maria Schell's name in the credits. She seems to turn up in the oddest places.... westerns, British films.... I always like her, but she only recently caught my...

Re: Random thoughts on Butch and the Kid and the Wild Bunch

Already, just from that clip, it appeals to me..... the first shot of bleak but beautiful snow with a lone rider makes me quite intrigued. And that Ennio Morricone cold, snowdrop music..... This one looks super interesting....it totally got my attention. I have never heard of it, but that isn't surp...
