next : golf This is kind of obscure, but that's just how my mind works. I immediately thought of the short "A Case of Spring Fever," as riffed by MST3K. This video links to the specific part of the film involving golf. https://youtu.be/le2eB2xtvBQ?t=247 Next: A movie that had a plot you d...

Re: I Just Watched...

I just watched Blue Thunder (1983) because I have been binge-watching Roy Scheider's films and tv shows lately. Honestly, I had low expectations for this title because I am not an action movie fan, but I thought I'd give it a shot because I had the same initial thoughts about Cohen and Tate (1988) a...

Re: What is Your All - Time Favorite TV Series

My ultimate favorite TV show is The Phil Silvers Show . As someone who has always been fascinated by the military, I am so enamored with this light, military comedy. The writing on this show is so clever, and Phil Silvers is always hilarious. As for other favorite shows, they cannot really be ranked...

Today I ran across these Future Funk gems that I surprisingly had not heard before. I really am enjoying them!

Re: "You look a lot like ....

Funny, but just the other day in another thread around here, I mentioned that what I thought the SSO website here needed was a "Lookalikes" thread just like the one that ran for years over on the old TCM boards, and this being if there hadn't already been one started on these boards years...

Re: "You look a lot like ....

I was just watching SeaQuest DSV 2032 and it struck me how much Richard Herd looks like Karl Malden. Most of the first episode I spent thinking "How is that not Karl Malden?" Their resemblance is uncanny! When browsing for photos to compare, I found this nice collage of both actors. It's a...

Re: I Just Watched...

I just watched "Cohen and Tate" (1988). It's not something I'd normally watch, but I have been appreciating Roy Scheider a lot recently and watched it just because he was in it and the plot, and more so the characters, sounded vaguely interesting. Firstly, I have to say that Scheider was e...

Re: What are you reading?

Did you change your name, Norfious? How did you do that? Erle Stanley Gardner of Perry Mason fame is quite the writer. Check him out sometime. Another prolific and terrific crime writer (police procedural they say) is Ed McBain, a.k.a. Evan Hunter. But when all is said and done, Charles Willeford i...

Re: What are you reading?

Ok, so I know you aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover, but that's exactly what I did when in the vintage books section of my favorite thrift store a few weeks back. What else could I do when the book had no complete dust jacket with the synopsis? I picked up a copy (which turned out to be a...

Re: TCM announces it is sunsetting the TCM Forums

norfious - I am sorry to say that we had little or no interaction on the TCM boards. I hope we will get along like gangbusters here. Note: I would hesitate updating your username. It was necessary some years ago that I re-register. Some factor in that process caused all of my old posts to disappear...

Ha, same here. It has been years since I logged in here. I really enjoyed the Silver Screen Oasis community and I hope we can make it active again!

(This is _Broadway_ from the TCM forums, by the way. Maybe I can update my username)

Re: January 2015 TCM Schedule

I missed the very beginning, but I just watched most of "Today We Live" . Despite its plot flaws and the fact that Joan Crawford had a starring role, I actually really liked it. I really enjoy and am fascinated by films that show a deep friendship between men, especially men in high-pressu...

Re: Robert Q. Lewis

For anyone who is interested, here is a collection of older news articles about Robert Q that I stumbled upon today.

Also, I am very surprised that he did not do more voice acting work. He had a magnificent voice, and what what I have heard it was really versatile, too.
