Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I have been watching Lily Pons in I dream Too Much with a very young Henry Fonda and Lily is marvelous. Lily Pons in That Girl From Paris. I love Lily but the movie script and dialogue was not good. Evelyn Laye in One Heavenly Night and also Evelyn Laye in The Night Is Young. I love Evelyn Laye and ...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
Rich Young And Pretty is my favorite Jane Powell movie but mostly because of Danielle Darriuex who is absolutely charming and adorable as Janes secret Mother.

Lakme Performances On film
There are two performances of "The Bell Song" from Lakme that I have seen and adore. One is from a pop musical "It Happened in Brooklyn" (1947) starring Frank Sinatra and Kathryn Grayson. Kathryn Grayson does the honors here and does a mgnifiscent job singing Lakme. The second is...

Re: The Wonderful Deanna Durbin
Now I can report that the Romance Collection is a winner. Each DVD has an introduction by Robrt Osborne, the host of TCM. One of the DVDs also has an interview with John Pasternak about Deanna the early years. All five DVDs have special feature which have many special still photos of Deanna both pos...

Re: Favorite Musical Poll FINAL: #1 & #2
"It Happened In Brooklyn" is my most memorable and enjoyable film. Frank sinatra, Kathryn Grayson, Peter Lawford, & Jimmy Durante make this thoroughly a great movie. They sing and sing and sing. This Black & White is one to remember.

Re: The Wonderful Deanna Durbin
I can report that I only saw two movies and not in their entirety but they were great For The Love Of Mary was brilliant with deep shades of black and white and excellent sound quality. I also viewed Mad About Music and got the same impression. All five movies were on separate DVDs and seem to all h...

Re: Movie Palaces, Cinemas and Theaters of Yesterday and Today
Back in the 30-50s New York City movie theaters were magnates for kids playing hookie from school mostly because of the "Big Band" performances during school hours. Truant Officers would roam the theaters to catch the kids. Some theaters even had children's section to restrict the kids. Ot...

Give A Girl A Break
This is a forgotten musical movie that features some great musical performances. The cast performs throughout and includes Marge & Gower Champion, Debbie Reynolds, Bob Fosse, and Helen Wood. This is a first class musical with little plot nonsense muddling the performances. Lots of dancing and gr...

Re: Can you like an actor/ actress if they play nasty roles ?
This is a great question. I totaly agree that all of us are persuaded to dislike someone if they constantly play a dark role. I even choose my modern day theater movies based on my like or dislike of the star. I have been racking my brain to come up with turn offs from yesteryear and can only think ...

Re: WHAT MUSICALS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?
I am looking to increase my collection of Irene Dunne movies and was surprised to see "myoldmanmovies.com" website lists 27 movies of hers. I already have a few but that is a lot to buy, even at only $3.75 per movie (discounted). I noticed that in the 30s Irene was drawn to movies about ad...

Re: Best War Pictures
I agree with Anne about needing a Female. Most movies made included a female somewhere as though all writers/directors felt it was a catalyst to grabbing the viewing public. They need Women's money now and always did. I am not a Feamale but I did see almost all of Anne's movies. I too am in love wit...
