Re: Special sales of Classic Film DVDs

Criterion is having a 30% off sale for the next two weeks. They're also e-mailing $10 gift codes, so check your in-boxes if you have an account with them.

What was supposed to be on? I don't look at the schedules much anymore. I see that there's a silent scheduled for next Sunday, though.

I always found him to be a nasty hypocrite who would lecture people who commented about posts they disagreed with that they shouldn't tell other people how to post, while at the same time telling other people how to post if one of the threads he started drifted or if somebody posted something he di...

I saw that there's a separate "Admin" account, as well, which I can only assume he controls, too.

I'm a fan of 8 1/2 and Satyricon.

But I'm just a gullible rube.

I hadn't seen that one yet. Looks like more of the usual suspects. On this list, I haven't seen

La Cienaga
Taste of Cherry

as well as the ones mentioned from the other list.

Re: Sight and Sound 2022 Goes Pretentious

There's been a trend with these sorts of lists over the past decade to become more and more contentious and outrageous with their selections in order to drive clicks/subscriptions/etc. It's glaringly apparent, and while something like Jeanne Dielman has been lauded for decades, placing it at number ...

Re: TCM announces it is sunsetting the TCM Forums

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but the Private Message function on the TCM boards is still working. I've gone back and forth with Tom a few times today. Don't know how long it will last, though, or if you can create new PM threads (the one we're using was started years ago).

Re: See Jayne Act: The Burglar (1957)

I believe in David Goodis. He is the king of noir fiction, say what you want about Cornell Woolrich, Jim Thompson, and Patricia Highsmith, fine writers indeed, but Goodis has dialogue that’s said without sound. How noir is that? Goodis was one of the best at noir theme fiction. The Burglar is a goo...

Re: Mr Drake's Duck (1951)

Eh when the TCM Board added "like" and "thanks" buttons, I hated & resisted it. Now I see the value in the button...saves having to take up space with additional posts to simply say "thanks". I feel that: 'like' buttons cheapen a site. I fell to using them on the T...

Re: WHAT FOREIGN FILMS HAVE YOU WATCHED LATELY?

Even Dwarfs Started Small (1970) This movie was written, produced and directed by Werner Herzog. I believe that statement is all the description necessary. I believe it explains also why it is such a difficult movie to describe. He has said in interviews that it came to him as a fully-realized nigh...
