Re: From Here to Eternity

One of my top ten films of all time. Though I constantly hear everyone talking about the Burt Lancaster/Deborah Kerr beach scene and that this is the one Frank Sinatra won his Oscar. I always felt those were subplots, the main story is Prewitt (Montgomery Clift) being bullied by his superiors into ...

Re: I Just Watched...

Who Killed Teddy Bear? (1965) Tubi-8/10 A discotheque hostess (Juliet Prowse) is terrorized by obscene phone calls. This is a sometimes sleazy, exploitative film but I love it. Sal Mineo plays the caller who is also a busboy in Prowse's disco, he is excellent. Elaine Stritch is Prowse's lesbian bos...

Re: I Just Watched...

The Hucksters (1947) TCM On Demand 7/10 A veteran (Clark Gable) returns from WWII and takes a job in an advertising agency. An entertaining film, a first time viewing for me. This was an early look at the advertising business which became more popular in the 1950s and 1960s with films like The Man ...

Top Ten Vincent Price Films

My favorites in chronological order 1) House Of Wax (1953)-Price is great as the mad artist who seeks revenge on those who destroyed his wax figures. 2) The Fly (1958)-Price is the good guy brother of a scientist who turns into a fly-man.The final scene on the spider web is still pretty shocking. 3...

Re: Favorite Type of Documentary

What type of documentary do you like? I prefer documentaries about the arts: movies (e.g., The Celluloid Closet ), actors (e.g., My Best Fiend ), musicians (e.g., Gimme Shelter ), artists (e.g., The Line King: The Al Hirschfeld Story ), writers (e.g., The Ten-Year Lunch: The Wit and Legend of the A...

Re: Top Ten Lon Chaney Jr Films

Creighton Chaney is one of those actors that generally elevates anything he's in. He's best when in unrequited love situations, much like his father. I do think he would have been an excellent romantic lead or even support if given more opportunity. Chaney Jr. himself thought he was more suited to ...

Re: Coming Up on TCM

That makes me wish I still had TCM. I'd like to see that doc. Maybe I can find it online somewhere. According to Letterboxd, I've seen more films with music by Steiner than any other composer (163 films). Update: I found it on Vimeo (via this link: https://www.torontofilmmagazine.com/post/watch-max...

Re: TCM announces it is sunsetting the TCM Forums

Just perused the site recently created by a TCM ex-pat and noticed many followed him and some are on this one as well. All well and good, but I also noticed that two posters from the highly politicized TCM Off Topics have already posted very political comments on the other site. Probably won't sign...

Re: The Raven (1935)

. The Raven is second from the bottom of my list because it is, for the most part, a lesser replay of the previous year's The Black Cat . The heroine is injured in a motor vehicle accident. Which puts her in the position of becoming the obsession of the lead villain. Who happens to own a house which...
