I guess this is what's meant as the "personal touch" for viewers during intros and outros.

Bless TCM's heart.
Ben didn't have anything to say about Grace Kelly and the Hollywood Blacklist?

lol, no, but he usually brings up Adolph Menjou and Elia Kazan cheerily testifying.

Others who testified are never mentioned: Sterling Hayden, for instance. The Communist Party had expected Kazan to be their star, because, unlike Alvah Bessie, people had actually heard of Kazan. When he named names, the CP decided to make him the villain, and their narrative has prevailed, after more than 70 years. I know one movie critic (whom I like personally and respect very much) who always mentions Kazan and the hearings, but never Sterling Hayden, one of his favorites.

I have to admit it surprised me when Alicia Malone so casually mentioned that in the introduction for The Bridges at Toko-Ri.
A new personal touch would have been the details of her involvement with 8 men in a single month! :smiley_innocent:

TCM by way of the National Enquirer and the works of Jackie Collins and Jacqueline Susann.

I noticed they had to pad out the day with TWO showings of High Society! (and a short on her wedding).

With a limited filmography to choose from, TCM showed all of the studio films that Grace Kelly appeared in, with the exception of High Noon (1952), which is a big disappointment that TCM was not able to include it.

(TCM last showed High Noon in the August 2023 Summer Under The Stars tribute to Katy Jurado.)

I was surprised by the two showings of High Society. Was this TCM saving money?
Lawrence said, many moons ago, the money spent on the hosts would be better spent on movies. Something like that.
The $10/month I spend on the package with TCM might be better invested with Disney Plus, at least for a while anyway.
Coming soon to a Honda dealer near you for 2025.

More like they couldn't fill out the day with enough Grace Kelly films! (She didn't make that many) This happened when she was SOTM too (I think they had some tv shows she did). They didn't run High Noon for SUTS for some reason.

My favorite romantic movie is coming up early tomorrow (Wednesday, August 28th, 8 a.m. est, I believe) KNIGHT WITHOUT ARMOUR (or ARMOR, spell it how you may). Now, I have to say at the outset that I am an admirer of David Lean but in my humble opinion KWA is far superior to DR. ZHIVAGO. And forget Lara's Theme -- Rozsa's evocative, beautiful score is just incomparable as far as I'm concerned. So exquisite and poignant.

And then there is Robert's (partial, unfortunately) recitation of Robert Browning to Marlene at the train station....

Enjoy MacMurray and Colbert in THE EGG AND I which I hadn't seen in some time. I always cringe, however, whenever Claudette, whose character is supposed to be a sophisticated 20th century city girl, freaks out after spotting Geoduck and Crowbar, two eccentric Native American locals. They play her fear for laughs, with hubby Fred whispering "You read too many Westerns". You'd think she was back in DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK, the scene where Chief Big Tree wanders into her and Henry Fonda's colonial American cottage.

Unfortunately A MILLIONAIRE FOR CHRISTY, that aired on TCM on Fred MacMurray's SUTS day, did not make it to WatchTCM.

I hope folks were able to watch this movie when it aired or recorded it.

I like it a lot.

My grandfather, when told his daughter (my Mom) and son-in-law were moving from the Texas coast to Oklahoma, seriously asked if there were any problems with Indians there. Mind you, my Dad is about 3/16 Native American, from several tribes, but I guess that didn't enter into his mind. She told him they had paved streets, indoor plumbing, television, and air conditioning and things were just as civilized as anywhere else. This was in 1955. Guess he thought they were going to live in a teepee (even though the tribes in our area had always built houses on their ranches since the Trail of Tears in the 1830s). Stereotypes are powerful things.

I wonder how close to the book the script was. That baby stuff at the end seemed so Hollywood. (only caught the last 20 mins or so). I've seen the film before and enjoyed it, but haven't seen it in a long time.

I read the book in junior high, but I remember nothing about it except for the title.
