TCM has posted a partial schedule for September, 2024.
In honor of her centennial birthday on September 16,
Lauren Bacall is Star of the Month, her third time.

I wonder if one of those TBD slots for Bacall is The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), the film that was her only Oscar acting nomination. It was conspicuously absent when she was SOTM 10 years ago, and certainly we've been seeing a lot of "newer" titles on the channel recently.

I am excited for Val Lewton day on Friday, September 13th. Hopefully, we get the restorations for The Seventh Victim and I Walked with a Zombie, since Criterion will be releasing them both in October.

I had no idea that there was a silent version of The Enchanted Cottage, so I will record that one.

I'm glad that Confidential Agent (1945) will be shown, in the Bacall series. Katina Paxinou plays Mrs. Melendez, one of the great evil characters.

SPOILER:

Here she is just before she pushes Wanda Hendrix out of the window. She does get her comeuppance, though, and commits suicide (taking poison) at the end.

I love Wanda Hendrix in Confidential Agent. Katina Paxinou plays a villain with Jamesian subtlety--NOT!

Yea, those two gals did some fine acting, but Boyer and Bacall had little chemistry, with Bacall having way to low energy, and even the fine actor Boyer not bringing much to the proceedings.

The schedule still needs to be updated, but I did notice yesterday that TCM will be having a rare showing of Wake Island.

Definitely one of the better early-on made in the conflict films about WWII.

Haven't seen it in years, but that's how I remember it being, anyway. It'll be nice to revisit it.

(...thanks for the heads-up here, skimpole)

I see that they have a series on Unusual Train Rides. They seem to have neglected this lively film, which opens with a debate between God and Satan, who are on a train to Las Vegas. This film is a hodgepodge of bits and pieces of three films that were never released separately.

I remember enjoying Night Train to Terror when it was released, in a theater with screaming teenagers. Here's a quote about the film:

In his book Bonkers Ass Cinema (2022), Matt Rotman writes: "Clever, clunky, and wildly bonkers, the failed experiment of Night Train to Terror is an exhilarating experience. Scenes transition nonsensically. Actors mysteriously change hair lengths. Claymation monsters on the level of Winterbeast (1992) wreak havoc on clay-ified characters. [And] a new wave band sings and dances in a train car, playing the same song over and over for an hour and a half

September 29 is Silent Movie Day (https://silentmovieday.org/). TCM will be screening Greed and The Enchanted Cottage (both 1924). I've seen the first, but fortunately held off on the second. And I will be rewarded for my patience--I know through another forum the aficionado who acquired a digital copy from the Library of Congress and successfully released it via a crowdfunding campaign. He's done excellent work with other silent films.

Where is this listed. I'm a fan of passenger trains.
The car is a 1958 De Soto Fireflite Sportsman hardtop.

I Walked With A Zombie is a great movie and we watch it on DVD fairly often. I think Tom Conway had an excellent performance in it. Fairly low key, but very effective.

Sorry -- I was saying that they've neglected to schedule the film. They're not showing it. There is a copy on YouTube.

It would be great if they could show some of these old instant coffee TV commercials in-between the movies during Lauren Bacall's Star Of The Month tribute on TCM in September.

I don't think this brand of coffee exists now.
