I don't think this brand of coffee exists now.

Yes! Or her Fancy Feast cat food commercials from the 90s.

I'm sure there's a way that TCM could present these old commercials in a way where it doesn't seem like TCM is showing commercials.

So TCM isn't showing Bacall in either The Mirror has two Faces or Murder on the Orient Express (certainly the movie I'd give her a supporting actor oscar for) or Dogville or Birth or her English language role in Howl's Moving Castle?

There is still an open 4-hour window for Lauren Bacall SOTM films at 8 pm on September 23. It would make sense for TCM to schedule Murder on the Orient Express in that window to go along with the TCM premiere of Appointment with Death which begins just afterwards at 12 am.

YES!!!!

Here's another great High Point Coffee commercial:

"Writing is a coffee lover's dream. That page took 4 cups."

It turns out they did choose Murder on the Orient Express to fill out the slot.

I like the September theme of Studio Directors, though I wouldn't necessarily agree that all the directors in the tribute should be categorized as such.

It doesn't. It was an instant coffee for Folger's which was a Proctor & Gamble Co. It was discontinued in 1993.
Folger's sells its own brand of instant coffee now.

Don't recall when exactly, but several years ago when I got my DVD recorder, I went on a binge of recording movies, mostly from TCM. We also have purchased many DVD's over they years.
Point being that I seldom find anything on TCM to record anymore as I probably already have or bought a DVD. In past year I do recall recording Having A Wonderful Crime and Callaway Went Thataway. Have recorded some for watching and then erased from the DVD. Surprisingly these are mainly Noir Alleys that I have seen before, but forgotten I had.

Just for fun, the sweetie & I were going to write to the address in the ad below to request some free samples of High Point Coffee.
I wonder if Proctor & Gamble still uses that post office box in Clinton IA . . .

You're not old enough to remember these days, but from the 1960s to the 1980s, a great number of coupons and mail-in offers were sent to Clinton, IA. It has nothing to do with P&G. There was a 3rd party coupon clearing house based in Clinton and owned and operated by Nielsen (the same folks who do TV ratings). They processed coupons and various mail-in promotions for numerous companies.

AFAIK, they are no longer in business.

Dogville? You’re not getting a Von trier film on TCM anytime soon. Lmao Both for rights issues and also the content. Dogville is as likely to get an airing as Salo.

Warren Beatty's REDS (1981) is scheduled to air in September as part of TCM's spotlight on movies included in New Republic’s list of the 100 Most Significant Political Films of All Time.
REDS is a rare example of a movie that I count as a favorite even though I've only seen it in its entirety one time. It's so long! --- nearly 3 & half hours . . .

I'm always impressed with Diane Keaton's ability to make written dialogue sound so spontaneous. I'm very familiar with the text of MARVIN'S ROOM so I can attest that she is not ad-libbing the dialogue in that movie, but she she creates the illusion that she (in the context of the scenes) is speaking the words for the first time and reacting in "real time." For me, this skill iis more impressive than any emotional display by an actor.
I also enjoy Jack Nicholson's performance as Eugene O'Neill.

Warren Beatty's use of interviews with actual people discussing their memories of the historical events covered in the movie is one of my favorite aspects of REDS. The often contradictory comments by the various "Witnesses" interspersed through the movie narrative add a perspective that is not usually seen in movies based on real-life events.

I only wish that this month's airing of REDS (on September 13) was hosted by someone other than Bill Maher. YUCK!
