Please review Western DVDs here, thanks. When reviewing, good things to keep in mind that people want to know: how good was the film quality, was the film itself any good, what were the extras and how good were they, was there a good commentary, etc. You know, stuff you would like to know if you were thinking about buying a particular DVD.

The Big Country's DVD has an excellent transfer, but is lacking an audio commentary. The only extra is The Original Theatrical Trailer.

The Film stars Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Carroll Baker, Burl Ives, Charleton Heston, and Charles Bickford, with Chuck Connors in support. The great William Wyler directs and has an excellent musical score.

The Film Rates **** stars out of four
The DVD ***1/2 - Due to the lack of extras

Is a very entertaing John Wayne Western directed by Michael Curtiz ( his final film ) " The Duke " is a Texas Ranger who is after Paul Regret ( Stuart Whitman ) for killing a man in a gun duel. Well, eventually they join forces to smash the Indian traders, " The Comancheros, led by wheel - chair bound Nehemiah Persoff. The ultra - gorgeous Ina Balin plays Persoff's daughter Pilar.. Lee Marvin, Bruce Cabot, Michael Ansara, Edgar Buchanan, and Guinn " Big Boy " Williams, in a hilarious cameo lend support. An great score by Elmer Bernstein.

The DVD transfer is good, but is lacking in extra's, other than the Thearical Trailer and a Fox Movietone Newsreel. No audio commentary.

The Film ***1/2 Stars out of Four
The DVD *** Due to lack of Commentary

Is it odd that Amazon is selling a Blu Ray of "The Outlaw Josey Wales" for $6.99 and John Wayne's "Lady From Louisiana" Blu Ray for $24.99?

I know the average price lies somewhere in the middle but with all seriousness, where would that price for a modest Wayne movie come into play? (I'm not really a fan of either movie.)

Transfer costs?

Speaking of price, where did this huge increase come on Blu Ray DVDs? Looking through Amazon quite a few of the discs are upwards of $30 to $55 or so. Granted, there are still many in the "reasonable" range but some prices came as quite a surprise.

For example - Open Range - $44. Rio Bravo -$54. Two Rode Together - $56.

Two of those movies are not even all that good. Hawks' tale is the one I like!
