This is easily the set of the year for me, well unless the Vidor silents get released. Finally Wellman is getting some DVD love.

This looks great, something to look forward too.

I have seen 4 out 6 of the films. They are pretty good. Among Wellman's best productions.

Oops! I didn't see this thread before. I've made a duplicate post under announcements. Sorry! It is exciting news though. This set looks like the best one thus far.

I'm hoping Vol. 4 is dedicated to Joan Blondell, along with a nice documentary. I don't know how else those remaining Blondell pre-coders will see the light of day, and yet it'd also be nice to see this fine actress get a retrospective all her own.

I agree. Joan Blondell is one of my favourite actresses of the 30's. I don't know what it is about her, but she's always wonderful.

This set looks like it will include some great films though. I think I'll buy this one before volume 2.

Here is a pretty good interview with Bill Wellman, jr., about his father and the movies
in this latest Forbidden Hollywood set. Looks like a book is in the works, too!

The one film 'they missed' was SAFE IN HELL with Dorothy MacKaill, but I'm happy they gave us WILD BOYS and HEROES in there. They could probably do another two full sets of Wellman films before I'd be ready to move on, though.

I also ordered the Universal Pre-Code Collection of Paramounts. Looking forward to watching those films, especially "Hot Saturday" (1932)! I'm a Pre-Code junkie!

The problem with SAFE IN HELL was lack of pre-production materials. The only source for the film was a print in the Library of Congress "that had seen better days," according to former Turner archivist Richard P. May. TCM's broadcast print is a copy of the LoC print.

CoffeeDan, thanks very much for this comment. I was wondering about it, and am strongly encouraged that at least it's going to be preserved somewhere. (At least my shelf has that decent copy.)
