The Silver Screen Oasis

If someone asked you to make up a list of your ten most wanted movies, what would you throw together? And I don't mean movies that are available to rent or purchase (I have a looong wish list of those ); I mean those titles that seem to be unavailable anywhere.

My present list, some titles subject to change:

1. Valley of Song (1953)
2. Murder in Trinidad (1934)
3. The Tiger Makes Out (1967)
4. It`s Not Cricket (1949)
5. The Last Outlaw (1936)
6. True to Life (1943)
7. Hell Canyon Outlaws (1957)
8. Project M7 (1953)
9. The Lonely Profession (TV 1969)
10. Memorandum for a Spy (TV 1965)

The top five on this list are must-haves, the other five are like-to-haves (they're the ones subject to change.)

If anyone can help me locate one of these titles, I'd be so grateful. And maybe I'm wrong about some of them not being out on DVD; I'd love that to happen. Even if one of the titles is available for sale abroad, I'd like to know, as I've purchased Australian DVD's that play on my computer. I haven't tried playing PAL discs yet, but I'd be willing to give them a shot, particularly for Valley of Song (1953).

I'm curious to see some other lists posted here, perhaps someone might know where to find a title contained on one of them ...

Note: lighter lettering indicates that the title has been found, and/or is no longer on my list.

Think I'll put that thinking cap back on and work out a list of my own. Just ten titles? Oh dear...

I'll have to have a think about it. My most wants are in foreign movies that haven't had an English release. So many big named films and as of yet, as far as I'm aware, no Birtish translation.

The top of my list would be La Femme Du Boulanger but let me come back to you with the rest.

John Ford wrote the original story, and Harry Carey, Hoot Gibson, Henry B. Walthall, and Tom Tyler star: http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/18456/The-Last-Outlaw/. Supposedly there's a memorable scene when Carey's character sees a singing cowboy western for the first time.

thank you so much for looking, Mary-Kate! I've only watched Netflix streaming movies and Amazon. I'm afraid $9.99 is a bit too steep for anything other than a real DVD. However, if it's in digital format, maybe it will make it to one of the MOD distributors some day.

Oh, think nothing of it. And I realize now that it's also on Amazon as a download ($9.99, again) and on disc as a Reg.2 Import from Spain.

I'm definitely with you there! ($9.99 = ouch.) Now, if it was $2.99, that would be a different story. Of course, in the case of Amazon at least the file is physically on one's hard drive.

Yes, it gives one some hope to know that it has a life apart from the pallid existence of a watery TV recording. (That's a good descriptive phrase of yours, Miss G.)

Thanks for the youtube clip, I do have a recording from AnnHarding without subs. It's a big film from the 1930s in French cinema, it's surprising it hasn't been released to the wider world yet.

Everyone tells me that. Can't understand why. (A conciliatory idea: we could compile multiple lists: "My Ten Most Wanted", "My Next Ten Most Wanted," "My Last Ten Most Wanted.")

Good job with the list; some are apparently so hard to find that I've never even heard of them! But one, The Runaround, I should be getting a copy of shortly (it actually was on my new list!), so assuming it's a watchable print, I'll send it along to you once I receive it.
