Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) showing tonight!

Post by Mr. Arkadin »

Title says it all. The Cinemax channel MoreMax will be running this killer noir tonight (4:40am). It will also reshow on ThrillerMax on 6/10 (4:30am). All times EST. This should be the restored Criterion print, so fire up those recorders!

Cool. The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) was also issued on dvd on May 19th.

There are two reasons to watch this one from my point of view:

1.) Robert Mitchum's last likable performance as the hapless Eddie. Mitchum's also one of the few actors who has ever gotten the working class beantown accent and patois even close.

2.) All the Boston area locations, including the vanished Boston Garden & The Kentucky Tavern at Newbury & Mass Ave, the park atop the Blue Hills in Milton, even the Boston Bowl on Morrissey Blvd., and the glorious old grim Callahan Tunnel. Instant, cinematic nostalgia for this former resident of "the hub of the universe"!

Thanks for the heads up, Arkadin.
