even if the movie is routine, garfield usually brings something uniquely his own to the table.

That's exactly it, MissG. He can be so exciting, it doesn't really matter whether the picture is conventional or even stale.

it's predictable, but there's a joy in that too.
That is absolutely true. In certain types of stories, I'd feel cheated if the expected turn of events DIDN'T happen. Should George Bailey jump in the river and drown? Should Walter and Phyllis get away with murder? I don't want to second guess Agatha Christie. Or stay a step ahead of Hitchcock. Sentimental drama, or especially comedy? Why not? This just goes to show there are all kinds of movies. Thank Heaven for that!
