I've always liked this photo so much, but I never really realized how much their distinct personalities were written on their faces here. Groucho looks so shy and uncomfortable, Harpo looks like he is more able to roll with the punches.

The Brother's real life personalities were basically incorporated into their comic stage creations. Groucho's inherited insecurities were masked both on stage and off by his natural wit and it's abilities to deflect true feelings. Chico's slyly illiterate conman was just an inverse of his true personage of a full bred, addictive gambler. And Harpo's blissful outlook at life, as seen when he wanders gleefully throughout the speakeasy in
HORSEFEATHERS, was........well, how Harpo went through real life.
