I just wondered, I come to the men's room because I appreciate pictures of the beautiful actresses but do any men go to the women's room and appreciate pictures of our handsome actors. Or is it more of a woman's thing to appreciate the beauty of both sexes? I'm just curious

Well, Allison, I think that most men don't really look at other men admiring their looks unless it is by comparison. Men are mostly competitive. They might look at another man and say he's ok cause they think that guy isn't any better than they are. If he is better, they know it; they just don't spend too much time thinking about it. But, most anyone can tell that Paul Newman or Tyrone Power are outstanding specimens. That is why they are movie stars. But, most guys will just say he's got some great guns (arms) on him, or Man, he is in really good shape, or that guy gets all the babes. That's about as far as they go in their admiration. Women, on the other hand, have always had more freedom. They can say that another woman is really pretty, or what a lovely figure she has without being sexual. A man can't tell another man he is handsome without some sexual connotation (although things have loosened up a lot today). So, in answer to your question, no, I don't think the guys look at the Women's Room the same way the women look at the Men's Room.

LOL, Garbomaniac, I agree. So many things are off limits for men. They might look over there secretly though to see what we like.

Dear jdb1, Professional Tourist, Garbomaniac, charliechaplinfan. Thank you for your contributions. You raise some interesting questions.

A man’s man

James Bond

With a Saville Row suit, an Aston Martin DB5, an insolent smile and a Walther PPK in his armpit – How can he lose.

Image

I headed this ‘James Bond’ rather than ‘Sean Connery’ because, of course, the off-screen Sean Connery is probably nothing like the type of character he played in ‘Goldfinger’. From the few interviews I’ve seen with Sean Connery he seems to be a rather nice ordinary fellow.

Reasons – Jealousy, Envy, Intimidation, Latent Homosexuality. I don’t know. This is straying into some deeply psychological areas that I am not qualified to go (or don’t wanna go).

I respect you for having the courage to rummage around inside the male psyche, there are some wonderful things to be found there. But it can be pretty skuzzy on occasions, so be careful and watch your step.

Best wishes

Well, PSYCHOLOGICALLY, it has been suggested that physical attraction is the first step in a relationship, male or female. That doesn't mean you have to find the other drop dead gorgeous, but just that, as far as you're concerned, they look ok. And, that physical includes: eye contact (if they have shifty eyes, they aren't attractive), body posture (slumped shoulders and fidgety movements are usually not considered attractive), that's all I'm talking about. But, it is definitely cultural. Europeans can often find other males attractive, and I mean good looking, without any sexual connotation, but it just rarely happens here in the states. Homosexuality is still not considered an acceptable alternative life style. It is getting there, but not yet. So, most men steer clear of ANYTHING that smacks of sex, unless of course, it is just fooling around, and everyone knows it's a joke.

And, metry is oh so right. Most men are skuzzballs deep inside. I don't know why. If civilization and manners didn't keep us in line, most of us would revert to raping, pillaging, and waring. I think the female of the species has had more influence on making men refined and cultured. And, that all has to do with mating, dating, and marriage.

I've never thought of it like that. It's nice to needed.

I know you come over to 'our' thread Garbomaniac because you post us lovely pictures. It's a pity that men can't express admiration for other's looks. I admit I don't go around complimenting other women that I know, perhaps I should do but if anyone ever compliments me on anything I feel embarrassed, that's probably a British trait. I can freely compliment a woman's picture in a magazine. There's nothing sexual in say admiring another woman's breasts, just a bit a plain old envy. I don't think it should be different for men but acknowledge sadly that it is different and any man complimenting another on their chest could get more than he bargained for.

Klondike told me that he doesn't go to the Women's Room because it's just like looking in the mirror...and we fellas just aren't that vain.

Did I quote you correctly, Klonny?

This is fascinating stuff, I am glad I ventured into The Men's Room. I just couldn't resist, with a name like that! I think most women have an urge to find out what's behind that male-only stuff. The discussion here has been illuminating for me, a female, especially since I didn't know which of you were male or female in the first place.....

I just watched Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. I thought it was worth a mention here. I wish I could do a screen capture from the final section Mara, as she strips to seduce Marcello Mastroianni. It seems an approapriate place to mention it.

I was never a fan of Sophia in her American films but she's great in Italian, I'm now a complete fan. I'm sure if I was male there would have been no obstacle to overcome in the first place.

Ann Bancroft – Beauty and Talent

Gorilla At Large - 1954

I’ve read that Ann Bancroft didn’t care much for these early movies, where the studio was trying to market her as a glamour girl.

The Bra – a perennial speed-bump to a man’s passion. But, with a little practice…
Image

‘Anna Maria Louise Italiano‘ – A lovely name. ‘Ann Bancroft’ sounds rather droopy by comparison.

It’s a shame she started her career in a period in Hollywood history when it was felt necessary Anglicize one’s name, presumably to be taken ‘seriously’ as an actor. ‘Anna Maria Louise Italiano‘ – Good enough for an Italian sexpot, but not for a serious actress.

Of course there were other reasons; I can understand why ‘Archie Leach’ wouldn’t quite jive with an image of cool sophistication. I always thought ‘Victor Mature’ was an hilarious and phony moniker, but it was close enough to his real name - with a slight Anglicization.

Best wishes
