Max Bygraves dies at 89

Post by stuart.uk »

While I realize Max Bygraves isn't to well known in America, I still beleive this great British all-round entertainer not only made a massive contribution to the light entertainement industry, he also made several decent movies in his younger days, starting off with a small role as a Coachman in Tom Brown's Schooldays. He also played the Palace theatre with Judy Garland preforming A Couple Of Swells. Max also played leading man to American actress Shirley Jones in the movie Bobbinkins, a forerunner to Kirsty Alley's Look Who's Talking.

Max's best performance though came in the early 60s with Spare The Rod, a grittier teaching film than the more famous To Sir With Love, it might even comapare to Blackboard Jungle.

Max in the 70s and 80s touched the hearts of the older, and some cases younger generation with his massively successful Singalongamax albums, where he sang medleys of all the old favorites.

For those not familiar with this great talent, here's some links, starting with his great hit written by Lionel Bart Fings Ain't What They Used To Be

Max's best film Spare The Rod
