Yeah, I don't think that Ben Stiller appeared in a film until 1987, when he had a brief bit in Empire of the Sun (a film in which it was very strange to see him pop up in)

One of the legendary worst movies, it is still more entertaining than what I'm trying to get through now for my first viewing: TOWARD THE UNKNOWN. When Bill Holden's leading lady is Virginia Leith, (in addition to a cornball script), you know it's turkey time but not in a good way. Virginia of course would make her name several years later as Jan in the Pan in the classic THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE.

I noticed that too. And it certainly wasn't a very flattering portrait of the mayor.
At least he didn't go around asking everyone How am I doin'? If it had been a
Beame look-alike they would have had to dig out some of Alan Ladd's old step
stools. And there's Tony Roberts, probably taking a lunch break from a Woody
Allen movie.

They overdid the New York "spunk" with that one transit guy (not Matthau) initially dealing with Robert Shaw's demands of $1,000,000 or passengers would be killed: "Dream on, maniac!" With lives on the line like this you'd think a bit more diplomacy would have been used.

I wrote about it on the I Just Watched thread, but I am still stunned and somewhat mortified that last year's film The holdovers went so far as to include a fake 1971 copyright in its opening credits to try to feel more like a 70s film.

Bikel is an offbeat choice. There aren't too many people involved with film who had a May 2 birthday. They could have picked Hedda Hopper, for the gossip.....
