LOL! That hair could host it's own show! I'm old enough to remember Walter Cronkite and That's the Way It Is!
It does look pretty impenetrable. I figure if David decides to stick with his job he'll probably be there another
ten or fifteen years, so the pretty boys (or pretty girls) are going to have to time it just right to take over
his spot and that won't be easy. Some of his closing stories are kind of corny and sappy. I blame social media
for showing things that are of little interest to anyone else except to Dave. I remember Walter too. That's
when the ABC evening news news was in third place.
Remember when ABC threw a young and unseasoned Peter Jennings at Cronkite for a while and in hopes that it would raise their ratings by drawing in younger viewers?

Say, have I ever told ya I could always do a bang-up and spot-on Cronkite impression?!

(...yep, but I just could never quite master an Ed Murrow one, unfortunately) ;)

Nope, good try there Dave, but your voice needed to go lower and deeper in order to do Walter's voice as well as MY impression of him is!

(...I WILL say though that NO ONE ever did as good a Bob Hope impression as Dave there did...Hope's was always really hard to do, ya know...heck, even Rich Little could never nail it)

He's on NBC now on wknds or fill in nights. He still says that!
You're right. Don't know why I typed CBS - must have been the Walter talk. 😆

I recall that vaguely. Didn't Jennings leave and then come back a while later with a better makeup man and
hairdresser? Thinking about this, Jennings was kind of an early model for the pretty boy set. I believe even
then people were noticing that trend.

Yep, as I recall and after their first experment with him, ABC sent him to manage their London bureau for a few years in order to allow that wet behind his ears to evaporate into the damp English atmosphere.

And then yes, after he had some experience under his belt and wasn't as young and pretty as he was during his first go at it, he would return to anchoring their 'World News Tonight' program and by use of that little "Transatlantic" accent of his.

(...and I THINK he would then become the top rated network news anchor for a time afterward, but don't quote me on this)

I know Jose is versatile but have a hard time seeing him as some sort of composer/song and dance man, lol. Oh I do enjoy Jane Powell -- just not here. (was that Vic Damone she's paired with? Maybe that's why) Tony Martin (Lover Come Back To Me) and Howard Keel (My Maryland) were their usual stalwart selves.

Woody is so pretentious, although I do think his use of opera excerpts in MATCH POINT is genius. Haven't seen TO ROME WITH LOVE. I am having a brain freeze remembering the movie with Helen Hunt where Allen plays a private investigator looking for some stolen jewelry -- CURSE OF THE JADE SCORPION? I love the "Arabian Marketplace" (if that's the correct title) jazz piece.
Woody is pretentious? I've never heard that one. One common criticism is that his movies are somewhat the same but I don't get that. Let me say one thing about TO ROME WITH LOVE. It's about an opera singer, played by a real world-class opera singer, who can only sing while in the shower. What Woody does with this simple idea is wonderful.. He takes a common pastime, singing in the shower, and does wonders.
Really? You've never heard that??
I've heard say that Woody films treat the same thing over and over which I think is nonsense. If he comes close to that all I guess I see differences that make it not matter. I wouldn't mind reading here an example of pretentiousness with specific movies. I'm not contradicting you, I simply seem bereft to grasp the notion. I might even agree if I can get an example. Maybe it's not on my radar since I enjoy almost all of what he does. I may be suffering from idolatry (as pertains his movies only) and just don't see it, or maybe not care. Is he pretentious all the time, in everyone's view? IMO, he is not pretentious in the least. But I would appreciate an example, thanks.

The producers decide what stories get to air, and I'd wager that most of them are under 40...

That sounds about right. Hey, let's send that Canuck over to Merry Olde England and give him some polish and burnishing
and see what happens. He did seem to have a more serious mien the second time around. I have nothing against Peter
Jennings, but there are some humorous things about his beginnings in the news biz. I think you may be right about the
improvement in ratings. I don't recall when ABC went with the three man anchor team. IIRC, it didn't last too long and
wasn't that successful in the ratings.

I would guess they are relatively young. Of course most of the stories during at least the first half
of the network news shows are usually all the same, though sometimes in different order. You
wouldn't have to be an expert to know that the capture of Cavalcante would be the lead story
on Wednesday.

It's been a rule for eons now that all 3 networks end with an uplifting human interest story at the end so we can feel the world isn't all that bad, despite what's come before on the program. Sometimes I watch, sometimes not, depending on how it relates to me....with more and more commercials crammed into the show, there's probably time for 15 mins worth of news now. They just skim the surface of what's going on that day (what news they choose to air).
