Well then, I guess this is where I admit to actually looking forward to (and have for years) this sort of thing on the 'CBS Evening News' and their "On The Road" segment presented by correspondent Steve Hartman, and as their final segment each and every Friday evening and usually replayed two days later during their 'CBS Sunday Morning' program.

(...and yes, I guess I'm sappy enough that it DOES quite often give me a glimmer of hope that the world might NOT be goin' to hell in a handbasket nearly as quickly as it seems it's often reported to be)
Some of Dave's final stories are good, others can be pretty sappy. You're happy the guy hit the lottery on his way
to the hospital, but it's not very relevant. Then there's the old standby of the military person on leave surprising
their daughter at her sixth grade graduation. The first few times it's okay, but after that it gets a bit wearing.

I suppose one of the advantages of getting older is that I've heard the hell in a handbasket thing for so long I no
longer pay it much attention. This too shall pass.

Yep, agreed, but in Hartman's case over the years, I've noticed there are very few of his segments that focus on stories such as those two examples. His seem to mostly be about people going out of their way to help another person, and thus by doing so have helped make the recipient of the good deed's life and/or their attitude about their circumstances changed for the better. Or in other words, the ol' "Pay It Forward" concept.

Yeah, I hear ya. I also feel a lot like this at MY "advanced age" as well. ;)

Charles Kuralt did it better:

And of course the original host of 'CBS Sunday Morning' as well.

Although, and as much as I always liked Kuralt, I don't know if I can say his 'On The Road' segments were any "better" than Steve Hartman's are now.

(...btw...I'd forgotten that Telly did those Ford commercials like that for a while back then)

I haven't seen Love and Death in many moons. IIRC, it was more of a sendup of Russian novels, but I might be
misrecollecting that. I'm sure Interiors was meant as a sincere homage to Bergman, it's sort of even more Bergman
than Bergman. Maybe that's why it's so funny. I've often wondered if Bergman would be the same if his movies were set
in a tropical climate than in cold Scandinavia. Gloomy angst on a sandy beach with umbrella and multi-colored drinks?

I agree that LOVE AND DEATH is mainly a send-up of those heavy Russian novels -- and made even more ripely amusing with (as I mentioned not sure whether parody or tribute) the addition of Bergman-esque directorial touches and references to his movies.

Pina coladas do not blend well with gloomy Scandinavian angst, lol.

Speaking of Charles Kuralt. I don't recall all the details, but didn't Kuralt have a whole other second family that he kept
a secret for years? I think he used some of his On the Road segments to visit them. A balding, straight arrow, aw shucks
kind of guy. I LMAO when I heard about it.

The older I get the more apathetic about voting I am. In off year elections non-voters are in the majority. In presidential
election years they're in the large minority.

Yeah, a beach volleyball game between the knight and Death just wouldn't be the same.

There is Summer with Monika and I think Persona had some scenes at the beach,
though they were rather bittersweet.

Congratulate me -- I sat through THE WHITE TOWER.

Glenn Ford, Valli, Claude Rains, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Oscar Homolka and a badly miscast Lloyd Bridges go mountain-climbing. Viewers unfortunately have to endure the tedious symbolism which accompanies their arduous and boringly predictable trek. (where is Forrest Tucker when you need him?)

I saw that a few years back when Glenn was SOTM. At times it was like watching paint dry.

I had the same feeling.

Even Claude Rains was dull.

It's been a rule for eons now that all 3 networks end with an uplifting human interest story at the end so we can feel the world isn't all that bad, despite what's come before on the program. Sometimes I watch, sometimes not, depending on how it relates to me....with more and more commercials crammed into the show, there's probably time for 15 mins worth of news now. They just skim the surface of what's going on that day (what news they choose to air).
Yes, isn't that sweet? Dave had a pretty corny one Wednesday. A doorbell camera shows Daddy riding off to work
on his motorcycle. His little daughter comes out to see he's already gone. He gets an alert and comes back and
give her a great big Daddy hug. Aww. :smiley_sick:

Just wait until 2025 when Anchorman III: David's Story, Hair Stand I Alone premieres.

David Muir does have great hair and when shirtless -- HUBBA HUBBA!

Too hairy! WIsh I hadn't seen that! :( Was he on location reporting? LOL.

I've never heard of this film. What an odd cast.

This is David Muir reporting from the Bangkok, the so-called sex capital of Asia. Sorry, I've got
an appointment with an anonymous source in fifteen minutes. Nice pic of David. It's kind
of funny the way his chest hair is arranged. Looks a little like a werewolf with his nipples
as the eyes. I never thought I'd be discussing Dave's nipples.
