CinemaInternational wrote: August 18th, 2024, 5:24 pm Is there a jinx about TCM? They seem to have this morbid habit of airing a film with someone who dies just before or just after the, airing. Alain Delon just had his SUTS day, and now he is dead.
Well CI, considering that the vast majority of TCM programing consists of movies starring people who ARE already dead, wouldn't ya think this sort'a thing would just be a case of "The Laws of Probability"?

And so then with the further thought here being that anyone who IS or WAS old enough to have starred in something TCM was showing at any given moment, was probably just about ready to kick the ol' bucket anyway!

(...or, "buy the farm", or "peg out", or...well, you get the idea by now, I'm sure) ;)
It was Belmondo who had the day recently anyways and he is already dead for three years now. It really isn’t that big of a coincidence when the person dead didn’t even have a tribute to them before dying.

Having tackled Jerry Lewis films a while back, I concetrated instead on a streaming that was running a non-stop Knots Landing rerun. A little of Jerry can go a long way sometimes, although I can tolerate him more than most.

Definitely the low point so far this month. I'm girding myself for Leo Gorcy day!

I thought Rowlands gave an excellent performance, although the screenplay left me shaking my head a bit. She's on the run for a good three days and the police never show up anywhere?

Jerry is exhausting, no doubt about it.

I know you probably won't believe this, but Leo is actually much more palatable, lol.

I hadn't realized so many of Jerry's movies were remakes. I think he also did LIVING IT UP, a reworking of NOTHING SACRED with Lewis in the Carole Lombard role.

One thing I noticed about The Nutty Professor (1963) was the character of the Mr. Hyde type Buddy Love. Many think it was a parody of Jerry Lewis' former partner Dean Martin, though Lewis has denied this. To me Buddy seemed to be more like the real life "serious" Jerry Lewis, the one we used to see on the telethon and talk shows. Throughout the late 60s and 70s, he kept the greasy hair style he had as Buddy and was also always chain smoking. He often seemed bitter and angry in interviews, the only thing he didn't have in common with Buddy was the hipster dialogue.

They're never there when you need 'em! Hopefully Gloria will be shown at year's end when they salute those who have died. It's probably the easiest film of hers to rent. I haven't seen the film in a long time. I thought at the time when it was released there where flaws in the story, but her performance is so mesmerizing you over look them.
