Francis Lederer sleeps on the roof (and hallway when it rains) of Ginger Rogers' apartment building but certain tenants are not sure he isn't shacking up with her and inform the landlady. Sure enough, "This is a respectable establishment!" (ROMANCE IN MANHATTAN)

I love that film though. It is so charming.

Yes, in that unique Depression-era New York fairy tale way. Lederer is suddenly able to get a job driving a taxi without naturalization papers, mainly because one of those friendly Irish screen cops takes a liking to him, lol.

Eddie Muller introducing Blonde Venus in primetime on Dietrich's SUTS day: "I'm Eddie Muller, giving you a much-needed break from Ben Mankiewicz." Bro humor or trouble in paradise?" I know their rivalry is supposedly good natured, but I found myself whispering a silent "thank you". By the way, the temporary stylized theater seat set he used seemed like a much more natural kind of thing for a movie host that all those glamorous hipster pads TCM has thrown together over the years.

For me a little of Eddie goes a long way. He was probably just getting
back at Mank for all the jokes Mank makes about Eddie when he's doing
his outro right before Noir Alley. Some are funny, some not so much.

I think Eddie is more likable than Mank. Eddie seems more knowledgeable and respectful to the films he introduces. Mank gives some snide remarks about the racism, misogyny and homophobia in some of the films. Plus he made some unnecessary lectures about colonization in Gunga Din.
I mean, come on, that's just a fun action/adventure film, I think the greatest ever made.

Ya know Jim, there IS another reason to prefer Eddie over Ben, don't ya?!

(...uh-huh, Eddie doesn't talk through his nose)

Eddie's SUTS intros might have been shot in a real screening room. The last thing TCM wants to do right now is spend anything on sets. They've already given up Eddie's Noir Alley set and the alternate set that Alicia and Dave used in the name of saving money:

Having said that, I noticed that Jacqueline Stewart did the SUTS intros for Bette Davis with a different background. Since she has left her position with the Academy Museum and moved back to Chicago, I was wondering if she would do the Silent Sunday Night intros from a new location, or fly to Atlanta periodically like Ben does. This one is pretty basic:

J. Stewart also did the Ossie Davis intros for SUTS, but those were shot on the familiar set that Ben and everyone else has been using. Go figure.

Interesting. Hadn't heard Jacqueline's tenure with the Academy Museum was over.

She stepped down this year to return more or less full-time to academia.

There are a few other articles like this that are all dated May 29:

https://variety.com/2024/film/news/acad ... 236018518/

The picture I showed previously of Jacqueline Stewart was actually taken on the main set - it looks different because the camera is in the middle of the set and is shooting Jacqueline as she is standing in front of the 'wall' on the right. On the Silent Sunday Nights intro this evening, you can see the same set of pillows and white-covered chair in the back right corner:

Image

We very seldom get to see the 'right wall' from this angle so it was new to me. This seems to confirm that Prof. Stewart is now filming her intros on the main set like everyone else (except for Eddie).

Hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing Labor Day.

Prison movies do not interest me in general or on this particular holiday so instead I've got QVC playing in the background. Veteran host Kathy Levine is always enjoyable even if I find her Diamonique jewelry line rather unattractive.

So, does or has Kathy there ever hawked lovely little pieces like this Empress Carlotta necklace here on her show, Bronxie??? ;)

One of my all-time favorite Dick Van Dyke Show episodes.

(...and if she has or does, then I can certainly see why you might feel the same way about Kathy's wares as Laura there did about that piece of jewelry Rob there was so proud to give her)

Would you believe I don't remember that DVD episode, Dargo? Damn, my memory is going downhill....

(my favorite one is Rob's nightmare about the aliens and walnuts, lol)
