Mr. North

Post by Uncle Stevie »

I did not know where to put this more recent film so I chose Drama.

"Mr. North" (1988) is a wonderful film starring Antony Edwards, Lauren Bacall, Robert Mitchum, Angelica Houston, and Mary Stuart Masterson. It is a 1926 story of life in the Newport, Rhode Island community of millionaires back when they were building great estates with their monsterous wealth. Edwards plays a recent Yale graduate who attempts to make some money in the summer of 1926. I know all of you will enjoy this quirky movie if you stay with it to the end. It is very well done with fine actors.

Here is a partial review:

. North'' is a comic fable about Theophilus North (Anthony Edwards), a clean-cut Yale graduate who has the self-assurance of a crackpot saint. At the height of the 1926 summer season, Theophilus makes his way through the social maze of Newport, R.I., with the aplomb and springy step of a very young, very American Mr. Hulot. He tutors the children of the rich, teaches them tennis, and reads to the elderly in English, French, German, Italian and Hebrew.

Please get this or rent it. I promise you will enjoy it.
