When I was reading about Sterling Hayden on IMDb, it discussed the fact that he ran guns to Yugoslav partisans.

And it also discussed how seriously wounded Durning had been, and that he also had been a POW.

Fascinating background info on these fellas.

Hope you post another interesting IN COMMON. I don't feel like I came up with the right answer.

Yes, you are right of course. But I'm thinking of something else.

Hint: It's a historical character.

Christy, your research is better than mine. You are right again, and you are the winner.

I was thinking of the fact that both ladies played Elizabeth I, Eldridge in Mary Queens of Scots (1936) and Simmons in Young Bess (1953). I didn't even think to look to see if they had other roles in common. My bad.

You do one now - think of a star you like, what they have done in their life, and see if anyone else has done the same.

Okay. I loved Jean Simmons in Young Bess.
Last summer I actually got to visit Hatfield House north of London.
Didn't know about the info you posted.
I also didn't realize that Frederic March and Florence Eldridge had been married for so long. (48 years!)

Ruth Etting and Joan Blondell.

I'm thinking of someone that they have in common.

I haven't responded because I didn't want to monopolize this thread, but it looks like you're not getting many takers, so I'll say:

Florenz Ziegfeld

Both Etting and Blondell were in the Ziegfeld Follies.

Dear Judith,
Thanks for playing this. It is a great thread idea.
I was thinking more of a famous actor that they both had
starred with ----Humphrey Bogart in a Vitaphone short called
Broadway's Like That. But Flo Ziegfield is a good one, too.
Why don't you ask another good one?

Here's one:

Name three things that Katharine Hepburn and Shirley Booth have in common.

There have been quite a few visits to this thread, but no one has ventured an answer.

Here's a hint:

The common factor between Hepburn and Booth has to do with two different types of entertainment in which both were successful; once together, and twice separately.

Reading this back, I fear it may not make much sense to those who aren't familiar with the careers of both Hepburn and Booth, but a simple online lookup will probably reveal it.

Shirley did the role on stage that Katharine did in "Summertime." Shirley was also in "Desk Set" on stage with Katharine doing the film. They did "The Philadelphia Story" together on stage.

Two very different women also starred with Burt Lancaster.

You are right Chris, and you even threw in Lancaster as a bonus common factor. Booth was such a very strong actor, but she just didn't have the glamor of Hepburn. Both of the stage roles were changed somewhat to accomodate Hepburn's style.

In particular, Arthur Laurents, who wrote i]Summertime, was outraged with the way Hepburn changed the part of Jane Hudson for Time of the Cuckoo. I read this in Laurents' autobiography. I don't think he ever forgave Hepburn for "spoiling" his play, and he is very catty about her (and Tracy) throughout his book. However, he had sold her the rights, so he couldn't do anything about it. She certainly knew what was best for her, at least professionally.

How about a question from you?
