The murderer's very clever plan involves having a witness assume a body is dead, when it is in fact still alive.

And since there may be more than one movie with such a ruse, the body (both the living and the dead one) are on a beach.

As they are leaving the courthouse, Barbara Rush tells Paul Newman she'll order a hamburger instead of the chili she use to order because he orders a hamburger usually when they first starting dating.

The murderer broke the engagement to one sister to become engaged to her sister when he found out the sister will have a large inheritance.

The sister that he broke up with realizes that he's a liar and no good. She tries to convince her sister not to marry him but she doesn't believe her. The jilted sister finds a gun in his luggage. She decides to kill him.

He had already murdered a married woman he was romantically involved with and made it look like suicide. He stole her wedding ring and money. Her husband did not believe she committed suicide. The police ruled it suicide then told him to find evidence that she was murdered.

Yes, Danger Signal starring Zacharey Scottand Faye Emerson. 1940's noir. The film was shown yesterday on TCM.
I knew you'd get this one Ziggy. Years ago we talked about Zach, how well he played these smarmy type roles. Good work, your thread 😊
