This film may have the shortest piece of advice in movies. "Don't"

this was not a throwaway word. It was so sublime that it is a scene in itself.

I know this isn't the answer, but when I hear "Don't" I always think of the part in Funny Girl where Barbra Streisand puts her hands over ears and says "Don't tell me" and then breaks into "Don't Rain On My Parade" at the train station.

Don't tell me not to live just sit and puttuh . . .

It is Mary Astor advice to Ruth Chatterton when it looked like the latter was looking to start flirting with a younger man (or something like that). The word "don't" had no exclamation point, just uttered softly with a hint of condescension. And poignant. I can't tell it and yes, it must be seen to appreciated as is with most things.

Take it, Bagel ; it's yours.

Thanks for your generosity, laffite, since I didn't give the correct answer.
Based on your mentioning Ruth Chatterton and Mary Astor, I now realize that the movie in question is Dodsworth, which like Funny Girl, was directed by William Wyler, one of my favorite directors.

The "Don't" advice that Mary Astor's Edith Cortright gives to Ruth Chatterton's Fran Dodsworth comes after one of my favorite exchanges in the movie:
FRAN (to Edith, after Fram has claimed to have just turned 35): "I hope I look as young as you do when I'm your age."
EDITH: "You're almost sure to, my dear."
The look on Ruth Chatterton's face after Mary Astor walks away is priceless.

Yes!

A Shot In The Dark features the second appearance of Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau, the role he originated in The Pink Panther.

It's your turn, Swithin.

Today's hint: The wedding mentioned in my previous hint was featured on the cover of Life Magazine in 1952 (although the movie is later).

Yes!

Klute is the movie.
Great movie with a great performance by Jane Fonda and New York City locations (which I always love).
