Yes, the movie is The Reckless Moment, directed by Max Ophüls (his last American movie before returning to Europe) and starring Joan Bennett and James Mason.
The movie was not well-received critically or commercially when it was released in 1949, but it is now generally considered to be a masterpiece.

It's your turn, skimpole.

Again, we're dealing with an actual murder, not an unfortunate confusion. And the movie was made after 1949.

Here's another clue. The movie was released in a period when all presidents after February 1, 1969 were alive. It takes place in a period when all presidents after FDR but one were alive.

1. A man finds he is his own murderer, and has been framed for another.
2. We are dealing with an actual murder (the two mentioned in the previous clue).
3. The movie was made after 1949
4. The movie was released in a period when all presidents after February 1, 1969 were alive. It takes place in a period when all presidents after FDR but one were alive.

And today's new clue:

5. The movie is based on a novel.

I was thinking D.O.A., but I don't think it's based on a novel.

It's not D.O.A. The murder(s) don't involve poison.

No. Warren Beatty's character doesn't actually kill anyone, let alone himself.

Here are the clues again:

5. The movie is based on a novel.
6. The murders don't involve poison.

Here are today's new clues:

Let's clarify clue #4: The presidents after February 1, 1969 are Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43, Obama, Trump and Biden. That means it was released when all of them were alive, from 1962 (Obama's Birth) and 1994 (Nixon's death). The movie takes place when all those presidents, plus those after FDR were alive, with one exception. That means Truman, Eisenhower, JFK and LBJ. Both Trump and Clinton were born in 1946, so it takes place after 1945. If you exclude Obama, that means it mostly takes place between 1946 and 1963 (JFK's assassination).

Clue 7. Most of the movie takes place in two major American cities, neither of which is a state capital. (Admittedly that doesn't add much, since the only major cities that are state capitals are Boston and Columbus.)

Clue 8. Although the movie takes place in the United States, it was directed by a British citizen.

Just a reminder....
THIS was Holden's orig. post on this thread...
-------------------------------------------
"The idea of this game is for one board member to post a short sentence that reveals the ending or other important plot development from a movie.
Based on the "spoiler," another board member will name the movie.

Ideally, there should be only one movie that would be the correct answer based on the spoiler provided so the game can flow quickly.
The poster who identifies the correct answer will post the next spoiler.

Try this:

1. A man finds he is his own murderer, and has been framed for another.
2. We are dealing with an actual murder (the two mentioned in the previous clue).
3/4. The movie was released sometime between 1962 and 1994, when all presidents after LBJ were alive, and most of it takes place between 1946 and 1963, when all the presidents after FDR were alive, with the exception of Obama.
5. The movie is based on a novel.
6. The murders don't involve poison.
7. Most of the movie takes place in two major American cities, neither of which is a state capital.
8. Although the movie takes place in the United States, it was directed by a British citizen.

And today's clue: 9. There is a rather alarming sex scene in the movie. Later information makes the scene even more unpleasant.
10. No, it's not Don't Look Now (which doesn't take place in the United States anyway).
