Arghhh Matey, Who Be Your Favorite Pirate?

Post by cinemalover »

There have been lots of exciting pirate films made over the years, recently topped off by the inexplicably popular series based on a ride at Disneyland.

Who was you favorite actor to put on the old eye-patch, so to speak?

Errol Flynn will probaly get my vote, but there are plenty of other interesting candidates out there.

Can't quarrel with Errol Flynn, but I'll also nominate Wallace Beery and Robert Newton for portraying Long John Silver, probably the first pirate I was aware of.

ChiO,

Wallace Beery is wonderful and has the perfect body for my mind's eye version of Long John Silver. He has that over-the-top personality that I would think a pirate captain would have to have to survive.

Douglas Fairbanks in The Black Pirate

Errol Flynn in Captain Blood

And fondly Gene Kelly in The Pirate

While I agree with the others listed. I'll add Robert Newton (again) as Blackbeard, the Pirate and of course Burt Lancaster as Capt. Vallo (The Crimson Pirate) ;)

Errol Flynn, far and away, but for me, it's his twilight role as buccaneer/freedom fighter Jamie Durrisdeer from Master of Ballantrae.
'Course, Roger Livesey as rascally tag-along Francis Burke, and all those great Scottish settings, don't hurt this mini-epic neither!
