Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner
Time now, I guess, to start thinking of quotes for November.
To celebrate the anniversary of 11/11/11, may I suggest Vivien Leigh's first words in that little film usually identified only as GWTW:
"Fiddle-dee-dee. War, war, war."

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner
All this talk about Tramps lately leads me to suggest my favorite song quote for the Banner (and perhaps, to go with it, a spread of actresses who have played "loose women"):
"I hope, and I pray, for Hester to win just one more A."

Today's quote is from My Man Godfrey, of course.
I'm watching it again tonight for the first time in a while. The movie is just chock full of fantastic one liners. I think we could do a year of banner quotes just from this film alone.

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner
Thanks for your choice of quote today (and for identifying the source). My Man Godfrey, Twentieth Century, Stage Door, & His Girl Friday could probably provide us with a couple of year's worth of lines. Something about those Gregory LaCava & Howard Hawks comedies, I guess.
....and don't get me started on Joseph Mankiewicz movie quotes!

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner
Couldn't agree more. In fact, I think it’s the great quotes in classics like My Man Godfrey that keep us going back to them over and over again.
Of course, most of the quotable films are comedies, such as those you've mentioned and The Women, Some Like it Hot, The Philadelphia Story, The Producers, Annie Hall, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Auntie Mame. And then there’s my particular favorite (thanks, Joe M.), All About Eve. I remember reading the screenplay as a teen, back when screenplays were very rare, and thinking to myself, “This is the most enjoyable reading I’ve done in ages.” It led to a lifetime of enjoying screenplays (re-reading Shakespeare in Love right now) and I think my life has been richer and happier because of the great comedy screenplays.
That said, I can’t help noticing that when a classic drama has great quotes, it often has more of them than even the best comedies. I’m thinking now of such films as Sunset Boulevard, A Streetcar Named Desire, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, Laura, and Mildred Pierce.
Can’t help noticing how many of the above films started out as plays, where the word is most important.
Final thought: If someone tried to determine which film has the most quotable lines of all, I feel sure that Gone With the Wind would win hands down. Could there be anyone who wouldn't recognize dozens of quotes from that classic?

I googled the line and found that it was not spoken, but comes from the intertitles of a silent film named Speedy.moira finnie wrote:Could someone please tell me where this week's quote was spoken. Thanks

Re: Vote for Your Favorite Movie Quotes for the Banner
Since Masha has pointed out that we shouldn't wait until Dec. 25 to start being kind to each other, let me jump in with the obvious suggested quote for you-know-when:
"Every time you hear a bell ring, it means that some angel just got his wings."
