A Happy Surprise

While channel surfing this a.m., I landed on one of the Encore stations I rarely visit, but saw the name of Castaway Cowboy and wondered what the heck . . . . Surprise, surprise - JIm Garner and Vera Miles in Hawaii :P :!:

From some of the dialog, you assume Jim Garner was tossed off a ship for some minor crime or other, and washes up on shore on one of the small Sandwich Islands. Vera Miles, a widow with a young son lives on a lovely plantation, that is quickly going to ruin because her workers would rather swim, dive, and slide in the water than work. The plantation is self sufficient as far as food goes, so there really is no need to work, but that's because potatoes have been the mainstay up to this point, but with no direction, nobody is going to plant and tend a crop. So along comes Texas Jim who discovers wild cattle and horses on the island. He's going to teach the workers how to handle a cattle ranch, and naturally that's where most of the laughs come in, seeing these guys in nothing but their sarongs trying to ride horseback, let alone get on the horse in the first place. There is a love story there, but it's more between the boy and Jim than anything else. Jim and Vera have a 'like' story going on. Robert Culp provides the 'nastiness', but good ol' Jim takes care of that. BTW it's put out by the Disney Studios.

No awards, or accolades, but fun for a 80 degrees at 6:00 a.m., and 95 degrees by 10:00 a.m. day. It's from 1974 when every one concerned was in good shape and looking fine.
