Quality was good enough to enjoy. I bought it recently from http://www.jubileedvds.com.

I wasn't familiar with this company. Thanks! Are the DVDs DVD-Rs or pressed DVDs?

My assumption is that they are Dvdrs, but confirmation of that could only come from Jubilee. They are all region discs.

De-lurking to ask: would you say the quality is superior to this version that's been on YouTube for a while?

Hello to everybody, by the way. :)

Have just settled in at our neighborhood movie palace to watch a 35mm print of "Crime Without Passion."

Yes, I am PSYCHED!

My initial write-up of CRIME WITHOUT PASSION (found here) was seriously, seriously flawed. It wasn't positive enough.

Having now seen a 35mm print rather than my passable DVD, I have decided that it is easily one of my 25 favorite movies of all-time. Hecht and MacArthur may not have known how to direct, but they sure knew how to write, and Lee Garmes provided marvelous guidance to make up for any directing shortcomings they had. Slavko Vorkapich's opening is absolutely stunning - and frightening - on the big screen. Claude Rains - when push comes to shove - is anyone better?

Our Modern Maidens (1929)

Billie---Joan Crawford
Abbott---Rod la Rocque
Gil---Douglas Fairbanks Junior
Kentucky---Anita Page

Billie is secretly engaged to Gil who has ambitions to work overseas as a foreign diplomat. Billie meets Abbott, who has influence with government appointments. Billie romances him and persuades him to secure an appointment in Paris for Gil.

The wedding day is announced, and Abbott realises that he has been tricked. Abbott takes Billie to his country cottage where he will take his revenge by having his wicked way. However Billie persuades him not to. Abbott tells her he hates her and walks out.

Billie loves Abbott, Abbott loves Billie, Kentucky loves Gil, and Gil loves Kentucky, but because the arrangements have been made the wedding of Billie and Gil goes ahead. After the wedding Kentucky is distressed and inconsolable. Billie discovers that Kentucky is carrying Gil`s child, tells her father that she has confessed something to Gil which he could never forgive, thus taking the blame for the breakup.

Abbott has been searching for Billie and they are reunited in Paris.

This is the second of three “Our” movies featuring Joan Crawford and Anita Page.

The Gold Rush - Charlie Chaplin Film

I watched the Gold Rush on TCM yesterday and I know everyone here knows the story by now - but, I never, ever get tired of watching it for the millionth time and I consider this Charlie Chaplin classic - one of the most enduring silent film of all time and I hope that it will carry with us for future generations to come. :)
