It's been a long time since I slipped and slid on hard ice! Here in southeastern Connecticut, the weather rarely stays cold enough for ice to build up like that, though we often get black ice that you can't see before stepping on it. We usually have up and down temps all winter, so the snow melts off in between even if we get 2 feet of snow. This year has been something of an anomaly, but I do really enjoy it.I almost would rather have it white all winter long like this than the muddy mucky mess we usually put up with. It reminds me of my time in the midwest.

OMG! How is it I have never seen GOODBYE, MY LADY? A William Wellman film about a boy, his uncle and...A DOG! My mom read the book, or at least part of it, to us when I was about eight. "Nothin' but a dog. A little old girl dog!" Walter Brennan as the crotchety old uncle, Brandon De Wilde as "Skeeter" and, well...A DOG! I'm not sure I even knew there was a move.

Hello. Netflix?

It's a good movie too, red! I had never heard of it till I got TCM. I watched it because it was Wellman, and ended up being really surprised by it, since it's so off Wellman's usual path. A really fine movie. But bring your hankie!

Canines are getting short shrift with all these cute little kitty videos. So here is a photo. Nothing cutesy going on. Just a foto to illustrate:

Here is my Bella. She just turned 9 in December. Our family pooch, a mix of basset and beagle, who even though she has a few psychological scars from being in a puppy mill, she is the most wonderful pet we have ever had. She has been and will always be close to our hearts.

100% adorable. Floppy ears and all! I found a long buried bone today. In a chair! Who buries a bone in a chair?

Charlie -15-Mar-2004 to 25 Mar 2014

When my daughter (Gayle) goes on holiday I care for her dogs, Charlie and Gracie. On Monday I fed the dogs as usual at around 5:45 pm and all was well. At around 9:45 pm it was time for the dogs to go outside to the toilet, but Charlie`s hind legs would not support him. A search revealed a paralysis tic. The tic was removed, Charlie was rushed to the vet where he was treated with antivenin. The vet said that if Charlie survived for 24 hours he would have a good chance. Gayle flew in from Melbourne and arrived home at around 9:45 pm Tuesday. Charlie was able to look up and wag his tail. Gayle picked him up and nursed him. Five minutes later he died.
