Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane-Feb 1967
The group's second album and one of my favorites of the 1960s. It climbed to #3 on the charts.
The opener "She Has Funny Cars" has a good drum intro by new member Spencer Dryden, ...

I think the drummer on the first album was SKIP SPENCE who probably joined MOBY GRAPE.

... The closer is more psychedelia with Marty singing lead on 'Plastic Fantastic Lover"
MARTY BALIN Rocks out unforgettably with that track on their live album; the live track is included on their "best of" collection (The Worst of Jefferson Airplane).

SIGNE always sounded like GRACE to me; I think SIGNE died the same day as PAUL KANTNER. I got to meet him about 15 years ago! Nice to see somebody talk about these records. Good job.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane-Feb 1967...
It's worth mentioning GRACE SLICK joined for the 2nd album and brought two great songs (the band's only Top 40 single charters?) GRACE SLICK had been in a band called THE GREAT SOCIETY which had some recordings of the songs...

After Bathing At Baxter's by Jefferson Airplane-Nov 1967

I just listened to this for the first time and it is a fairly decent psychedelic rock album but a big disappointment after the excellent Surrealistic Pillow..It reached #17 on the charts. The first track, "The Ballad Of You And Me And Pooneil" is a trippy rocker with some good guitar by Jorma Kaukonen. Marty Balin was growing dissatisfied with the group at this time and only appears once with a good song, "Young Girl Sunday Blues", his input is greatly missed. "Martha" is a good song about a free spirited young girl. "Rejoyce" is a jazzy, experimental song by Grace Slick, her great voice helps this one. There is a long (9 min) instrumental called "Spare Chaynge". Normally I don't like jam sessions since they are usually more for the musicians than the listener. But I liked this one, Jorma's mysterious guitar work, Jack Casady's pounding bass and Spencer Dryden's galloping drum beat make this hypnotic and it doesn't seem as long as it is. More great singing from Grace on "Two Heads" with a mysterious feel and strange lyrics. The last song is the hippie-ish "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon."

"Spayre Change" is a favorite of a friend of mine; you're right, it clocks in longer than one thinks. PAUL KANTNER played "You and Me and Pooneil" the night I shook his hand, a small venue, appearing as JS, they did a great job! So great (or "grate") my friends went to the back of the ballroom!

R.E.M. - Fables of the Reconstruction.
I remember asking my guitar teacher the level of difficulty to play Driver 8. He responded "moderately." He was half right, it was moderately impossible.
