This is one of the first records I bought, with my own money. And when I looked for it on YouTube...and found it, I could sing along with it. I haven't heard this song in...in...well, in a good many years. Here's the "A" and "B" side of this record. 45RPMs RULE!
"You build my gallows high, baby."

Well if the guy has to be honest with you, he might as well make this a hit record:

Here is a record I only thought I imagined from long ago. This unchained melody just kept running around in my head without a beginning or end. When I found it on YouTube I jumped with joy. I thought I'd NEVER hear it again. YouTube...what would we DO without ya?!!

Hey now DJ-Maven, thanks for sharing those memories of early
45 rpm treasures! I'm not sure what these things say about us in
the final analysis, but personally, I can't think of anything groovier
than spinning these little donuts til the wee hours of the morning.
I began buying (and collecting) 45s as a whippersnapper back in
1956. These are a handful of the 45s I bought between '56 and '60:

NERVOUS NORVUS "Transfusion"

THE TEENAGERS "Why Do Fools Fall in Love"

THE DEL VIKINGS "Come Go With Me"

THE EVERLY BROTHERS "Bye Bye Love"

DION & THE BELMONTS "A Teenager in Love"

THE PLAYMATES "What is Love?"

MAURICE WILLIAMS & THE ZODIACS "Stay"

BOBBY RYDELL "Volare"

THE EVERLY BROTHERS "Bye Bye Love" is a very popular song by DJ's in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area when this song first came out back in 1957 and continued so until 1963 ... four years after I was born.

It's so embarrassing that I don't remember the first 45 I bought. Had
good fortune of having a Great Uncle who owned a record shop and
juke boxes, so I got 45s recycled from the juke boxes. But I do
remember my most recent 78 purchases because I nabbed these
just this morning. The pop, hiss & drag are such a vital part of
the listening experience.

I bought Swingin' the Boogie, her first record, but it's not on
YouTube, so as a substitute:
Hadda Brooks Rockin' the Boogie

Four Blazes Please Send Her Back to Me

The "5" Royales Baby Don't Do It

Helen Humes with Bill Doggett Octet Be-Baba-Leba

Astounding assortment of wax, DJ-ChiO, simply outta this
world!! 45s never wore out their welcome at little Dewey's
house back in Detroit. And he was encouraged from an
early age to "buy local."
DEL SHANNON "Runaway"

MICKEY DENTON "Steady Kind"

JAMIE COE "How Low Is Low"

THE VISIONS "Tell Me You're Mine"

NOLAN STRONG "Mind Over Matter"

THE DYNAMICS "Misery"

GINO WASHINGTON "Out of This World"

THE REFLECTIONS "(Just Like) Romeo & Juliet"

THE VOLUMES "Gotta Give Her Love"

We drove to New Haven yesterday. It was a short trip, but it was a sunny day and I realized how much I like traveling while listening to music. These are songs that are just fun to drive to...they even sound like wheels on pavement. It's my favorite category of songs actually, since I love to get going. So I thought I might play a few songs if no one minds, about traveling itself and the places we all end up.

These all seem to relate to each other in my strange mind.

I should play Roadrunner, but I like this one better.

I love the midwest!

Bobby Bare reminds me of Eric Clapton. Neither one of them moves at all when playing the guitar.

Was the original "Detroit City" by Bobby Bare? I remember hearing it. In my fourth grade class, Albert Goatee asked if he could sing a song. "Um...sure. I guess. Boys and girls, Albert Goatee is going to...sing a song." Damned if he didn't get up in front of the whole class and sing "Detroit City"! Ladies and gentlemen: ALBERT GOATEE!

Don't forget the nation's crossroads:

And Indianapolis, hosting Sunday's big game and which, right now, is experiencing SUPER BOWL MANIA.
A little seen response to the Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle for Super Bowl XX. No wonder that Pats got creamed. (As they will, Sunday.)

Starting as the host of a local TV music show in Chicago in 1970,
DON CORNELIUS became the face of Soul Music when Soul Train
went national in 1971.

R.I.P. Mr. Cornelius. And remember, above all else:
Love, Peace and SOOOOUUUULLLL.

Gosh I remember Mr. Cornelius very well with his deep voice and his stylish suits on Saturday morning or afternoon. This really bums me out.
