Speaking of Sports, once again, many of the TV networks played sports at 5 PM last night, Saturday, instead of the news.
Fox had baseball.
NBC had the Olympics and my local CBS had the 49ers.
I believe it should be unlawful to override local news for sports.
When I’m King, this will change and Big Pharmaceutical will not be allowed on broadcast television.
And while you're at it, could you get rid of the Electoral College?
Typically, when there is a King in power, there are no elections.
"I say WOT?! You can DO that sort of thing???!!!"
The people of Great Britain will thank you for keeping such thoughts to yourself here, James!
But, yeah yeah, I know. Ol' Big Ears up there is really as they say just a "figurehead" now days.
(...but now and getting back to that REALLY good idea laffite had about the Electoral College here......) LOL

Maybe "King" was a euphemism. Maybe he meant God.

Ya know, I guess I really must be a true classic movie fan, and because after this current line of conversation, ALL I can of think of now is...
And so, HEY, and gettin' back on track here...How about them Dodgers?!!!
(...don't worry laffite...I already know how you feel about 'em)
I don't hate the Dodg as much as I used to. That sweep by the Pads a couple of years took some of the hate out. I never liked Roberts, so smug and yet so mediocre.
Watching the Pads tonight, Musgrove back on the mound as has four scoreless innings. Machado I guess has a day off. What for? He's getting old, or sumpin'/
Pop quiz, what major league team has struck out the fewest time, the whole major leagues?

Pads win 2-1, the final out a splendid catch by Merrill that prevented the tying run to score in the ninth. The catch made me think of Tommy Agee in the '69 World Series.

Btw here laffite, did you see before last night's Dodger home game against the Pirates, The Dodgers honored one of the great ambassadors for the game of Baseball, Dusty Baker?
Here's a nice writeup about it by longtime L.A. Times Sports columnist Bill Plaschke:

A high-five to you for your article post here, Dargo...
Dusty Baker was once a regular visitor to the following cages which served up balls to many Valley youths such as myself at one time:
What an odd ad, using the old exchange letters ST for the first phone number and all numbers for the second. I would imagine the second number was issued by Pac Bell without an exchange name, as they stopped doing this in the late 50s, for new exchanges, due to the explosive population growth in California and the increased demand for phone numbers at that time. But why wouldn't they (Buddy's Bat-A-Way) just use all numbers for both in their ads?

And of course another thing that dates this ad here Tex, would be the reference in it "Near General Motors plant". This would be the GM plant in the San Fernando Valley that many a Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird would be assembled.
(...this plant closing for good in 1992 and with production of these models then being moved to Quebec Canada)

Betts is back and he is one of the top 5 best position players in the league, so Dodgers should get that lead up to over 7 games by mid-September.
Yep, and with Mookie making an immediate impact upon his return to the roster yesterday by going 2 for 4.

The ad is dated "February 28, 1969" if that helps at all, txfilmfan...
The establishment went back to the early 1960s so I would guess that they kept recycling some elements of their earlier ad or ads.
Yep, like I said the other day here, with the top three NL West teams playing the way they are presently, it's definitely looking as if they're all heading to the playoffs again this year.
(...and with those gutty D-Backs also finding ways to pull out wins near the end of games as well, and like yet again last night)

Have you ever partaken of the pool scene yet, Dargo??
