Yep, like I said the other day here, with the top three NL West teams playing the way they are presently, it's definitely looking as if they're all heading to the playoffs again this year.
(...and with those gutty D-Backs also finding ways to pull out wins near the end of games as well, and like yet again last night)
Have you ever partaken of the pool scene yet, Dargo??
Ya know NS, I have yet to visit Chase Field since moving here to AZ a dozen years ago now.
(...although the wife and I have discussed going to see a Dodgers/D-backs game down there many times since moving here)
I've never been to Petco but I have a tentative rendezvous with a new acquaintance that will be my debut. II it occurs. I haven't been to many games ever, growing up on the West Coast. I attended a doubleheader (remember those?) between the Pads and the Mets in '84, and about 10 games at Yankee Stadium.

Well, Dargo, should you eventually firm up a visit, would you ask your wife if I could come along too?? I promise I won't talk too much about Norma and the Valley.

LOL
So, would this same promise hold if and/or when we get together during my next visit to SoCal for that British motorcycle rally in November?
(...hope not anyway...I DO so hate having to hold up more than my fair share of conversations, ya know)

Laughing: Yes, it would, Dargo...
... but then you'd ask, "Do you have a motorcycle?", and I would reply in my best Jack Nicholson imitation - "Have I got a motorcycle...":

Ah! Didn't know you had a Husky!
(...nice dirt bike there)
No, no, Dargo, I don't - that's more dream machine for me. Instead, it was meant to be funny but fell flat: "Look at that dude on the cycle with the funny-looking tires!"
You know me, Dargo: a child of the 1970s motocross craze.

It was 55 years ago on this date that the 1969 College All-Stars, which included future HUNTER star Fred Dryer, met the reigning Super Bowl champion Jets. "Broadway Joe", the most celebrated man in professional football at the time, debuts a linebacker's face guard to protect his prominent nose and winning smile.
Apparently just in time:
As he'd done earlier in January, Matt Snell provided the X factor in the Jets victory.
It was 55 years ago on this date that the 1969 GIANTS, which included future HUNTER star Fred Dryer, met the reigning Super Bowl champion Jets.
"Broadway Joe", the most celebrated man in professional football at the time, completed 14 of 16 passes - including three for touchdowns - as the upstart AFL team embarrassed the established NFL one for New York bragging rights.
Namath is seen post-pass taking a rough hit by Dryer.
Fifty-five years ago on this date - August 19, 1969, Major League Baseball experienced one of its greatest days seen for collective pitching, and it came in an unlikely season as the previous "Year of the Pitcher" had prompted changes toward more offense, most notably the lowering of the mound by five inches. There also was the reduction of the strike zone, a directive which Ken Holtzman personally attested. Without registering a single strikeout, Holtzman incredibly still pitched a no-hitter that afternoon:
Later in the evening San Francisco's dandy righthander, Juan Marichal, pitched thirteen scoreless innings, averaging a strikeout per, but the Mets demonstrated what made them so amazin' that '69 season: Gary Gentry and Tug McGraw put up fourteen innings of scoreless ball as the awesome tandem of Bobby Bonds and Willie McCovey both unfortunately 'chose' to have their biggest off-days of the season on the same day!! After 13.1 innings, Marichal finally blinked, and Tommie Agee hit a walk-off homer.

Once again here NS, you've been the cause of an enlightenment for me.
Ya see, while I already knew of the expanded strike zone during the 1960s and which of course would be a major contributing factor to and in that era of dominating pitchers, after just now Googling "Strike Zone" I discovered that the cause of that was MLB's reaction (some could say "overreaction") to Roger Maris' 1961 breaking of Babe Ruth's single season home run record that year.
(...don't think I knew that before, and so thanks)

You're welcome, Dargo - you'll always be "Dargo" to me no matter how your situation turns out.
Hey: I caught myself checking to see if you "Googled" or "Goggled"!!

Dodgers play the Marlins and Padres the Twins so boys in blue should be add another game to their lead.
Actually here James, the Dodgers are playing the Mariners at Chavez Ravine tonight, and it's the D-backs who are down in Miami today.
And so with the Mariners in the hunt for a playoff spot (and wouldn't be nice to see them knock those cheaters from Houston out of it when the end of the season rolls around) your scenario here couldn't be a foregone conclusion.
(...and with the Padres and the Twins both claiming 70 wins at the moment, I'd think that that game would pretty much be a tossup as well)

Thanks for clearing up my confusion. I'll still be hoping the boys in blue can pick up a game or two so that once the dog days of August are behind us they are in 2nd place in the NL.
PS: where is Groucho Marx with a gun in his mouth? I see you're Dargo2 now.

The following link to page 2 in the "Question about site function" thread and to my first posting as "Dargo2" about halfway down that page will explain it all:
