Thanks for that link Theresa. It was great to see Olivia!! She looks fabulous....I am so happy that I could see her.

Christy, Are you related to that American pioneering woman Marie/Mary Putnam that appears in the documentary?

Thank you for asking, feiato. I don't know of any direct connection. But our branch of the Putnam family came south. Some claim that we are connected to General Israel Putnam and the publishers, G. P. Putnam & Sons, but I haven't researched that much lately. We Putnams are Irish from County Cork(the Sullivan family), and English, from the original form of Putnam, "Puttenham." On my mother's side of the family, we are German, Spanish (Reguillo/Rogillio from La Mancha), English, and Irish. I like to feel that I am a concerned citizen of the world.

TCM Film Festival Passes UPDATE: Passes can be purchased by following this link: http://www.citiprivatepass.com/landing/ ... tival.html

You do not need a CitiCard to purchase a pass.

Here is an article from The New York Times that Kyle in Hollywood first posted at the TCM website earlier today:

Turner Classic’s Film Festival Gains a Sponsor
By STUART ELLIOTT

The Turner Classic Movies cable channel has added a fourth sponsor to the ranks of the marketers that will serve as partners for the channel’s fourth annual film festival.

The Citi credit and debit cards offered by Citibank have been signed as the “official card” for the 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival, to be held in Hollywood from April 25 through 28.

Citibank joins three returning sponsors: Vanity Fair magazine, Verizon and Bonhams, the auction house. Terms of the agreements are not being disclosed.

The Citi sponsorship is part of what Citi calls its Private Pass program, which offers cardholders advance access to events. In this case, Citi cardholders will be able to order passes two days ahead of the official on-sale day of Thursday.

Private Pass is about “diversity of access” as well as access, said Ralph Andretta, head of co-brands and loyalty for the Citi cards unit of Citibank in Long Island City. “It’s not just about music, sports and food” events, he said, “it’s also about classic movies.”

Mr. Andretta described himself as a fan of classic films and TCM, adding that he watched “From Here to Eternity” on the channel on Monday night.

In addition to the pre-sale offer, attendees who use Citi cards to buy their passes will receive “a collectible gift” upon arriving there, Mr. Andretta said.

Citibank and TCM are discussing the possibility of hosting, before the festival begins, a preview party for about 100 Citi cardholders, Mr. Andretta said, which would feature Ben Mankiewicz, who shares with Robert Osborne the duties of introducing the movies shown by TCM. (Mr. Mankiewicz will also introduce films and events during the festival; Mr. Osborne will be the host of the festival.)

Citi and Verizon are also sponsors of some movie screening events around the country that are part of the annual TCM Road to Hollywood series, which precedes the festival.

Sponsorships of events put on by TCM enable marketers to affiliate themselves with the channel, which does not run conventional paid commercials during its programming. TCM is the only major basic cable channel devoted to movies that is commercial-free; channels like IFC and Sundance, which were once commercial-free, now run commercials.

For 2013, there will be a “huge digital push” for the festival, said Dennis Adamovich, senior vice president for digital, affiliate, lifestyle and enterprise commerce for TCM and two other cable channels, TBS and TNT, that like TCM are part of the Turner Broadcasting System unit of Time Warner.

In addition to content that will be available on tcm.com, the TCM Web site, Mr. Adamovich said, there will also be an app for film fans who “can’t be there” at the festival.

Among the events at the festival with sponsor participation, Vanity Fair will help present an after-party that will follow the opening night screening of a restored version of “Funny Girl.” Bonhams will take part in several ways, including an evaluation of memorabilia and other items for select pass holders.

TCM plans to announce around Jan. 1 the names of the film stars who will take part in the festival. The theme of the 2013 festival is “Cinematic Journeys: Travel in the Movies.”

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

The new TCM REMEMBERS 2012 is one of the most all-encompassing montages ever created, and includes performers from all categories of the entertainment business. It is lovely, and the theme is "Scenes From a Drive-In." Ann Rutherford is featured in a beautifully stunning clip, and Michael Clarke Duncan relishing a "flicker show,"as well as a dramatic last goodbye from TCM Festival and Cruise guest Ernest Borgnine, while shooting stars fly across a deep, midnight blue sky....

The song is "Wait" by M83, and was filmed at the historic Starlight Drive-In in Atlanta.

Will she or won't she? Speculation abounds, but I just feel she will be waiting in the wings for the Thursday evening gala presentation of Funny Girl.

According to last year's announcement schedule, January's update arrived on the 31st. Maybe we will find out then!

And.........the Road to Hollywood link has been updated for January 31. The 40th Anniversary of Cabaret and it's recent restoration will be hosted by Robert Osborne at the Ziegfield Theatre in New York. Guests include Liza Minnelli, Joel Grey, Michael York, and Marisa Berenson, and tickets will be available on January 17.

For more information, follow the link: http://www.tcm.com/2012/roadtohollywood ... tml?city=3

Anybody we know planning on going?

I had decided to give my budget a break and take a year off from the TCM festival, but OF COURSE this is the year they schedule a movie with Ben Johnson -- they're going to show Shane. !!!

Actually I have seen Shane on the big screen but I would sooo love to see it at the TCM fest.

The only problem is... all the hotel rooms have been booked.

So anyone wanna share their hotel room with me? You won't see much of me since I'll be at movies day and night. I'm a very nice roommate.

Paula, I can heartily recommend you! I am a member of the Going to TCM Festival Facebook page, and there might be some folks in that group who are looking for a roomie, also. I've already booked my room, but may share with someone who already has a room reservation. Please PM me for info if you are interested.

Also, they've just announced another update which includes Shane:
MADCAP COMEDY, CLASSIC ANIMATION, LEGENDARY WESTERNS AND LANDMARK SILENTS ADDED TO 2013 LINEUP!
TCM is thrilled to announce the following additions to the 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival lineup.

75TH ANNIVERSARY OF BUGS BUNNY (VARIOUS YEARS)
Film critic and historian Leonard Maltin and animation historian and author Jerry Beck curate and present some of the best shorts featuring everyone's favorite rascally rabbit.

BADLANDS (1973)
World premiere 40th anniversary restoration of writer/director Terrence Malick's landmark tale of doomed lovers on a cross-country crime spree, starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek.

FLYING DOWN TO RIO (1933)
Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the film with a new print, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire make their onscreen debut together in this musical comedy about a bandleader pursuing the woman of his dreams in Brazil.

HONDO (1953)
John Wayne stars as a mysterious stranger helping a deserted mother and son save their ranch in this 60th anniversary 3D screening.

IT (1927)
Clara Bow gives a career-defining performance as a shop girl who uses her romantic charms to pursue her wealthy employer, with live accompaniment by composer Carl Davis conducting a performance of his original score.

SCARECROW (1973)
Gene Hackman and Al Pacino star as a pair of mismatched drifters who travel across the country to open the car wash of their dreams in this U.S. premiere 40th anniversary restoration.

SHANE (1953)
Alan Ladd, Van Heflin and Jean Arthur star in George Stevens' landmark Western about a roving gunslinger who gets caught between a homesteader and a ruthless cattle baron.
We're also happy to announce the TCM Classic Film Festival is returning to the world famous Arclight Cinema's Cinerama Dome in 2013 with two special presentations:
CINERAMA HOLIDAY (1955) The second film made specifically for Cinerama follows two real-life couples –one from St. Louis and one from Switzerland – as they travel to each other's countries in this travelogue delight. Presented in three screen Cinerama.

IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (1963) This 50th anniversary presentation of Stanley Kramer's uproarious, star-studded comedy about a madcap race for buried treasure is presented in 70mm.
