Do You Have Trouble getting others to watch classics?

I can get my husband to watch if it's got Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Moto or Charlie Chan. He will also sit through Casablanca if absolutely required to. He likes The Maltese Falcon too. And he loves the original Miracle on 34th Street.

That's about it for him. ;)

P.S. He actually watched a Tim Holt western with me a few weeks ago, but I think mainly because he felt too lazy to get out of his chair. :) He said it "wasn't bad." Not that that means he wants to watch another, because he doesn't. :)

I provide a written survey to my film class at the start of the semester in order to gather some clues as to what kinds of classes I should offer. One question asks, in effect, to disclose one's tolerance for silent films.

One respondent this semester wrote: "I don't know. I never saw one."

While brecovering from surgery I attended physical rehabilitation classes in a healthcare nursing / rehab facility and was faced with a population well over 70 and many over 80. Twice I wore my "Deanna Durbin" T shirt and tested the waters. Only one of the 50 senior citizens pointed to the shirt. No one want to talk about Deanna. I guess she is far out of the limelight now.

It's appears to me that many old people that you mentioned while recovering don't watch movies any more and that is true today and true back in my days of taking care of my step-grandmother with my Mom and she and I noticed that they don't watch much television and rather sit around the table and talk and play card games instead.

Thanks for sharing this and I get amused when I do get a chance to visit old people at Nursing Homes, Retirement Centers, and etc.

One more thing, I'm very happy that you are alive and well and it's was great hearing from you!

Oh, that's a shame, Uncle Stevie! Deanna can never go "out of style", she's a gem and we'll be happy to chat about her here anytime. Just out of curiosity, what did the one person say or think of her? I hope it was someone who loved her too.

No real conversation. It was just an acknowledgement - I know who she is. I understand the issue but am disappointed in the loss of history of film and it's stars.

Ask any kid 35 and under and they will tell you they never heard of -- John Wayne, Cary Grant, Walter Pigeon, Rosalind or Jane Russel, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Deborah Kerr, or hundreds of movie names that built and created the industry. What a shame. My kids never heard of Petula Clark.

I saw a listing for this and it certainly caught my attention. I guess the irony is that Lincoln appears to be one of the most mild mannered people to grace this country.

I had never heard of this film before a friend sent this to me.

To serve in the office of president during the Civil War had to be one of the most trying presidencies in our history. Compassion, strength and diplomacy...Lincoln.

I love Tim Burton's fearlessness. Lincoln...vampires. Who knew?

I can't wait to see this movie. The book is much better than you might expect. It's exceptionally well written.
