That candid of Carol Burnett is really telling, isn't it? She has endured a lot of heartache in her life. I think most of the best comedians harbor a deep well of anguish. Happy Birthday, Ms. Burnett!
Thank goodness for Carol! She's been a joy to so many people for so long. I just found out from an interview Groucho Marx did with Barbra Streisand that Carol Burnett was one of the three main choices for the role of Fanny Brice in the stage version of Funny Girl. I think she would have done a great job, and who knows what would have happened to her career later on? Things worked out anyway, thanks to her great talent. We were so lucky to grow up watching her show every week - I'm so glad we had that time together. God bless her!
