Andrew doesn't bother, just walks through on the way to bed and then makes a silly comment. You're a gem to even watch it once, Chris.

Re: Downton Abbey
Well, you're kind Wendy. I don't find it as dull as Chris finds it.I suppose Andrew does as well. In fact the dialogue is what I like best. There is an eloquence to almost any conversation that I can never reach but there is an art to saying what are sometimes very simple things.
Some of the situations test my limits of belief but you have to go with them if one is to stay with it. Edith's situation with her gentleman friend and the way the family handled it come to mind. I did find it a bit funny when she begs her father to invite him back for dinner. The "please, please, please" sounded so juvenile to me. I expected her to stick out her bottom lip. And he (her friend) seemed to be a little too good natured about it. Must be the American part of me thinking that.

I keep thinking Edith's beau has a deep dark secret. Wouldn't it be something if he turned violent, or was actually Jack the Ripper?
Well, no I would feel terrible for Edith but I still think he's too good to be true.

That should make for an awkward wedding night.

And if you've missed the first two seasons you're going to have to catch up. That will take some time.

Re: Downton Abbey
Yay! A new fan.
I started re-watching a British show called Wives and Daughters, which is a story by Elizabeth Gaskell. In it, Francesca Annis goes from being a prim governess to one of the most wildly coiffed women of all time, as she marries the main character's father and becomes more and more overbearing. The hats alone would make you laugh out loud, with hair pulled upward into spires and laced with bric a brac. The thing that's great about it is that they are not pointed up, they just exist as an extension of the character, who is most definitely trying to live above her means and station.

I 'fell in love' with Francesca Annis years ago when she was in a marvelous production of 'Lillie', the story of Lillie Langtry (I always thought it was spelled Lily).

I remember seeing that one Nan! She was and is so beautiful. I'll have to go back and watch that one too.
