I am VERY surprised that Ben Affleck (Argo) and Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) were left out of Best Director nods and quite surprised that Tom Hooper (Les Miz) was as well. But Affleck's snub is the big one for me.

And no love for Skyfall for Best Picture is disappointing though Roger Deakins getting a nod for his cinematography is good.

No love at all for The Dark Knight Rises not even in visual effects or sound is surprising especially when Snow White and the Huntsman got a VE nod.

I hear that MacFarlane was cracking wise throughout the presentation.

Les Miserables ...

I can see that this film is going to get the most wins. To me, it is the best film that came out that year. I enjoyed the whole movie from top to bottom.

Hi,

I haven't seen any of these movies and haven't even heard of most of the nominees.....
So, I couldn't care less about the Oscars and will be in Bali and cruising the South Pacific anyway when the thing is aired....

I used to host an Oscar party from 1965 to 2000, but when nobody knew the runners any more and it became a boring, adolescent slug fest, I gave up.
I couldn't tell you the winners from the 70's onward really; but I do know when Olivia, the Joans, Bette and Clark, the Jimmys and Colman won.... They were stars, the present lot aren't!!

Hi,

BTW, I did see "The Best Marigold Hotel" and "Quartet" - - what happened to them?

Also, I do think Meryl Streep is a star and the best actress available today; but can't think of anyone else - they're just celebrities.
Was Kim Kardiodashitall nominated for anything. Best ass or slut or something??

I am stunned that "Moonrise Kingdom" was not on the list (except for a screenwriting award). Did it come out too early in the year?

I saw "Silver Linings Playbook" last week. It struck me as an updated "Moonstruck." More serious than a comedy, but once that comparison came to me, I couldn't really shake it. I have to say that Jennifer Lawrence and Robert DeNiro were a joy to watch.

I only saw "Argo" in the Best Picture group.

In the Best Musical Score I saw "Skyfall" was listed. It seemed pretty good in the movie but I was thinking about getting the soundtrack and the 90 second samples on itunes didn't do it any favors. I passed.
