Poor JB..if Wikipedia is right, this picture was taken one year (or so) before his death in 1942 at the age of 60. He looks more like 75. What a sad waste of a brilliant life.

Western Guy wrote:Lennie is the character Lon Chaney portrayed in the film OF MICE AND MEN. Bob Steele played Curly, a tough little runt who always picks on Lennie, leading to the classic scene where Lennie, after taking Curly's punches, turns the tables on him.

LOVE that cartoon. The Cagney stance is perfect for the Monster.
Now I know, I love the book, I'm not sure I could watch the film after reading the book, a good book but an emotional one.

oh, Ivan Jandl. What a sad little boy. He broke my heart in The Search. Awarded an academy award, then his country wouldn't let him come to receive it.

I love Estelle Winwood, and she lived to be 101!

She was great in The Swan as Symphorosa. :D

It was sad, Wendy. After two films in his country he eventually got into radio.
In 1987 Ivan died at the age of 50 of diabetic complications in his apartement in Prague.

Glad we are not in upstate NY right now. Very, very cold there. In Florida for the winter, but its cold here, but not that cold.

Also, John Hudson and William Hudson(both deceased) were born on this day.

This is a great site and I look forward everyday to see what people have to say.

I like Estelle Winwood as the busybody neighbor in Quality Street, you can practically see her sniffing out scandal with her long nose. Also funny in The Producers. Actually I like her in everything. It's a pleasure when she shows up in a film. :D
